That is very different than saying 'There is no evidence that wearing a mask by healthy people has any medical benefit.'

I'm chalking that up to "most people are morons" messaging. Give people an inch and they take a mile. Same with the fear mongering type messaging. My guess is it that it's simply more effective at making people follow directions.

My former neighbor is probably immune to this, even though he is nearly 80 now and "high risk". He once stopped me and said, "If you happen to notice me bathing in my pond, please do NOT be concerned. My immune system is VERY strong. I beat prostate cancer on my own years ago, and now the US Army wants my blood. They offered my 10,000$ for a single pint, since I can cure cancer."

I just assumed this really meant "I didn't pay the water bill, and they are about to shut that shit off, so you might see me taking a bath in the pond."

Sure. At the risk of long-term damage to people's trust in medical authorities.

I never wear a seatbelt while driving because it definitely gives me a false sense of security. The only situation where the seatbelt is almost 100% effective is when the car isn't moving, so I've narrowed my use of it to moments where the car is stationary. Basically that means on RORO ferries and when waiting at a traffic light. I also haven't been wearing a bicycling helmet since I woke up from this dogmatic dream of falsely sensed security when I was 10. I either wanna be 100% protected or die when I fall off the bike.

I see the point you're making, but masks don't really work that way. What's this called, false equivalence? Yeah.
