Here's a good article in Nat Geo with a sobering look at supply chain woes.

Ars Technica has an informative "guide" up for anyone interested:
https://arstechnica.com/science/202...he-coronavirus/

Edit: the Ars article is relatively lengthy, but I definitely think it's worth the read. It has some facts and stats that are good to know. The comments section is good, too, as it has comments from a broad range of people in various countries and academic/employment fields.

CNN and others are reporting, now, that the Head of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has tested positive for the virus. Wonder how many coworkers he's shaken hands with lately?

I assume his health insurance is of the platinum grade and he'll receive all due care at a minimum of cost. I worry about the 60% of Americans who don't even have enough saved for a $500 emergency. Something tells me their insurance, if they have any, might not be as "platinum".

The average person doesn't need any care, they just need to stay home, hydrate, and eat well.

My biggest worry is about all the people on the poverty line, working near-minimum wage hourly jobs: when cities shut down, what will happen to their incomes?

Between insurance premiums, co-pays, and payments on myriad medical bills, my wife and I spent 50% (or more) of our income on "healthcare," and because of lung damage from chemotherapy, she is in a higher risk category. We're not on the poverty line, technically, but we're on the "cannot afford another fucking bill/premium increase" line, for sure.

This is what i try to explain to people who are "oh, it's just like the flu". We'll all get though this but the financial repercussions are what worry me. My wife is a stylist and she's beginning to see people cancel appointments. No clients = no dinero.
