PROTEUS is a revolutionary new light and sound product that combines our innovative BiColortm stimulation technology—another Synetic first—with a powerful set of additional features, all for an unbeatable price. The latest member of our best-selling ORION family, it boasts completely redesigned circuitry, including an advanced processor which is four times faster than ORION's. It includes the following new features:
Realtime BiColortm output. Proteus controls two color output channels in real time! This means that relaxation frequencies can be set to soothing green, while energizing frequencies are the appropriate red. We deliver the system with superbright “emerald green” and “ruby red” LEDs, and ruby/sapphire LiteFrames are available as an option.
Totally programmable. We’ve developed a simple yet powerful Windows 98+ hosted programming tool, available free of charge. You can download it for review by clicking here, or view the documentation here.
Totally upgradeable. Proteus uses advanced Flash memory for both session and operating system data. This means that you can download not only new session groups but that the entire operating system can be upgraded. Recent upgrades have added include such advanced features as wavetable crossfading; dual binaural beats; BioConnect(tm) real-time biofeedback control, and more.
Wavetable audio. PROTEUS includes stereo audio digital to analog converters, enabling production of binaural beats and other waveforms. You can store up to four different waveforms in Proteus, and we include an audio waveform creation tool with the bundled software.
Enhanced AudioStrobetm. We’ve fine-tuned our AudioStrobe decoder circuitry, providing a much crisper, more intense experience.
100 program capacity. Proteus ships with enhanced versions of the original Orion sessions, together with a mix of our "best" programs from our other systems. A total of fifty programs are preloaded into Proteus when you receive it.
Proteus can hold up to 199 programs in nonvolatile memory. In fact, it does more than most machines in the $300-$400 category, yet is much more compact (no heavy metal cabinet to scratch your tabletop), lightweight, and attractive. If you're looking for an advanced light and sound system, chances are Proteus will do most everything you want it to.

For the benefit of FRAZ and those who don't know...
Basically these machines are designed to change your state of mind. Literally. Your brain operates in a number of recognised states, from the standard awake, alert state, through a few relaxed states into a sleeping state. These machines can make your brain change state by applying visual / audio stimulation in the right manner.
The science behind it is a bit too involved to go into here (i.e. I couldn't be arsed to type a really long post ;)) but the concept has been around for years. In fact, the popular audio editing program Cool Edit had a facility to transform your audio into a carrier for the mind changing signal. I tried it, and it does work. That was back in the days when Cool Edit was shareware, and way before Cool Edit Pro.
Applications for this technology are numerous:
- Decrease stress (by forcing the brain into a relaxed state)
- Help insomnia (by forcing the brain into a sleeping state)
- Increase concentration
- Etc.
