MISSTRESS BARBARA, TALL PAUL, JUDGE JULES, MARCO V, FERRY CORSTEN, ARMIN VAN BUUREN & PAUL VAN DYK
We set off for the Point at One O'clock as I was expecting heavy traffic on a sunny St. Patrick's Day Eve however there was very little congestion and we reached the venue an hour and a half early!!! After messing about in Dublin for a while we headed to The Point, unfortunately I had to pay for parking this time :(
The queue to get in was not too big and the event organisers let everyone in spot on time, much to the delight of the large crowd, most of whom will probably remember having to stand outside for well over an hour last October. When we entered The Point the setup was much the same as the previous event held however the organisers were very strict on selling drink and my friend Jonas was asked for ID, he is 22 and looks even older, quite odd when considerably younger clubbers were getting served at other bars :/.
Barring these few hiccups the night was amazing. First on the decks was Misstress Barbara, I had never heard her before but she was quite good and played a hard trance set, just the start to get everyone going. Misstress Barbara played from 18:00 to 19:00 and was followed by Tall Paul. It is quite funny, I am starting to take it for granted now that Tall Paul will actually turn up for the events that he is booked for now!! Anyways Paul played a good short set, he started off with Tomcraft - Lonliness which went down a treat and also inevitably played, I think what must be his most favourite tune of all time, Who Da Funk - Shinny Disco Balls, everytime I hear Tall Paul play he drops this track!!
Tall Paul played from 19:00 to 20:00, he was followed by Judge Jules. The crowd at this time was growing by the second, I do not know why everyone flocks to the dancefloor when Judge Jules comes on, there are a lot better DJ's playing on the night than him, but anyway Jules started with Tomcraft - Lonliness (Klub mix) then played a very nice mix of Don Diablo - Acceleration, I have since been informed that it is the Svenson & Gielen remix, anyway credit were it is due, very nice track. After believing that my faith in JJ had been restored he proceeded to played an awful remix of Rank One - Awakening, now I love this tune and the Cosmic Gate Remix kicks ass but the tune he played here had the vocals of Justin Timberlake over it, I was devastated - what an awful remix!!!
Fair play to Jules, after this bad remix he did play some other nice tunes including KOT vs. Driftwood - Finally a Freeloader (Green Martian mix), Hi Gate - Hurricane and also the classic Angelic - Cant Keep me Silent - this tune always remind me of NYE 2001, so I do enjoy when it is played :) Jules finished off what was quite a decent set at 22:00, to be followed by the one and only MARCO V, this guy is tops!!!
Marco started off the set with his new track C:/DEL*.mp3, finally I recognise this tune and I love it!!!! You can see the tune being along with many others spun by Marco in the video clips section of this website :). Marco has got to be one of my favourite DJ's at the moment and I was lucky enough to fight my way to the front in order to get some cool close-ups. Marco only played from 22:00-23:00 but he included his own production Marco V - Echoes (V.Ision remix), Coldplay - Clocks (Marco V Bootleg) Igor S - Boomerang (Igor S remix), Mauro Picotto - Back To Cali (Push Remix) and finished off with the excellent Plasticboy -Silverbath, what an amazing tune!!!
Marco was followed by Armin Van Buuren & Ferry Corsten, this was one of the highlights of the night, arguably two of the best trance DJ's back2back, Dublin was in for one hell of a treat!!! Initially I did not know that these two would be playing back to back as I only saw Armin but Ferry soon stepped up!!! Armin began the proceedings with Scott Bond vs. Solarstone-Untitled (this track is not included in the 2FM broadcast then dropped DJ Tiesto's remix of Cor Finejman ft. Jan Johnston - Venus, quality tune. Ferry then mixed in the next three tracks Solarstone-Solarcoaster (Midway Remix), Aly & Fila - Eyes Of Horus (Ronski Speed mix) and Sundawner - Flakes.
Armin came back to the decks and began with the amazing 3_Fingers-Frozen_Feburary_(Flake mix), followed by Push - Universal Nation (Push vs. Globe 2003 mix) and Armin van Buuren - Sunburn. Ferry then played Eon - Pocket Damage and Armin mixed in Ronald van Geldren presents Kid Vicious - Proceed, I went absolutely mad to this tune, it is just simply brilliant. I cannot remember which of the two played Umek vs. Speedy J - Kratex (Armin Van Buuren Mix) but Ferry mixed in his own production Punk, I am not sure what happened to this tune but there was a lot of skipping during it, this can be heard in the live recording, I can remember Ferry looking perplexed after the tune had finished. Queen Vs Vangaurd - Flash (Original mix) was the next tune to be played, I don't mind this song but it is not one of my favourites, a low point in the set? not really!
The final three tracks were GTR - Mistral (Original mix) played by ARMIN, Airwave vs. Rising Star - Sunspot played by FERRY. At the end of Sunspot someone threw a shirt onto the decks from the crowd when Exhale was being mixed in, Ferry was not too happy (this glitch can be heard in the live broadcast) :(. Exhale was the last track to be played, it is one of my all time favourites and it was great to hear it at this event after not listening to it in such a long time :)))
The final DJ to play was the one and only Paul Van Dyk. As Paul started his set he gave the crowd the Peace sign, No War In Iraq. Paul started as he did when I saw him play at Lush last week with his own production Arctic, this is very nice. He played a number of tracks that I had not heard before, maybe this was the main reason why the set will not be broadcast, he included new productions in it. I was so pleased that Paul played NU-NRG - Dreamland, it takes me back to the summer and his essential mix from Columbia Halle, one of the greatest EM's I have ever heard. PVD also played NU-NRG - Butterfly and NU-NRG - Take Your Air and included two excellent new tracks Silvester - Hardbeats and CIRC - Destroy She Said, both of which should be downloaded immediately off your nearest P2P source :))
All in all a belter of an event, highlights include Armin & Ferry back2back, PVD and Marco V, I have never heard a bad set from any of these superstar DJ's
