Gold Coast Two Tribes!

Efff_Beee
Morning peeps!

Ok, so this Two Tribes didn't have a big TA crew, I didn't score an interview with Armin, and we didn't get a legendary massive 4 hour set from the man, but it was still a wicked night!

Having decided to go chem free to TT this year, I stocked up on the red bull and waters, and headed straight to the GodsKitchen tent.

I caught up with Basshound during the afternoon, then grabbed front and centre for Armin, my girlfiend in tow at her first "electronic music festival".

I checked out Slam before Armin's set (as I missed them in Sydney), and I must say those guys are a class act! Junkie XL took stage before Armin, and I thought he was pretty entertaining, if not very original.

I caught a glimpse of the man checking out the decks prior to his set, and he was looking pretty amped up! 9:20 rocked around and Armin started off his set, it was very similar to his Syedney TT set, with a couple of new different tunes, Underworld - Born Slippy being one standout during the end of the set.

From what I remember:

GTR - Mistral
Airwave vs. Rising Star - Sunspot
Push - Strange World
Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Armin van Buuren Remix)
Solar Factor - No Return
Paul van Dyk - For An Angel (E-Werk Club Mix)
Prime Mover - The Weapon (Grinder Remix)
Armin Van Buuren - Sunburn
Three Fingers - Frozen February
James Holden - Nothing
The Roc Project - Never
Solar Stone - Solar Coaster (Midway Mix)
Scott Bond vs Solar Stone - The 3rd Earth
Green Martian - Wizardry
Solar Factor - Urban Shakedown (Original Promo Vinyl Mix
Underworld - Born Slippy

I've missed probably about 10 tracks in there, but I think you guys get the drift :)

I was a little dissapointed that I didn't get to hear Yet Another Day, as that was the track I was amping myself up on during the week prior to TT Gold Coast.

When he played For an Angel, the crowd went ballistic! 7 Cities was also a big crowd pleaser.

Armin was his usual animated self, but I think the hectic tour schedule was catching up on him, as I thought he looked a little tired during most of his set.

The mixing was tight (as webby would call it), but he kept messing up the front to rear fading /me shrugs.

All in all, a very enjoyable night and a nice way to finish off with Armin for the year (?) :)

Before I sign off however, allow me to tell you a funny story:

END OF ARMINS SET -

Drug f**ked skanky chick (DFSC) "Whats this guys name?"
Me "Armin"
DFSC "WHO?!?"
Me "Armin" (Showing her my Thankyou Armin sign I wrote for the end of his set)
DFSC "OI ARTMAN ARTMAN GIS A F**KING SIGNATURE"
DFSC (Throwing pen and paper at Armin) "GIS A F**KING SIGNATURE YOU BASTARD"
DFSC "I'm not going to get a signature off this guy am I?"
Me "Just wait you might"
DFSC "OI. F**KING SIGNATURE ARTMAN!"
ect.. ect..

*sighs* :)

the last hours track selection was awesome, some newys and then mostly classics at the end (that shat on any current track)

his mixing was pretty average imo, but he still gave a good show

Man was i disappointed with armin's set. No eh. First hearing him on boundaries of imaginaiton, that cd was really amazing or something..... now these days it seems he's just mixin to boost his ego and not really caring. Like I thought he was a ledgend and i guess he is, but he didnt play a very good set at all. Some nice tracks but I only eveer really danced to Born Slippy. The first time iI get to see armin ever and I find myself wandering off to go see Sander K in the other tent. Oh well. All the fanatics can cry over him, jump on stage and bow down to him, hold thier hands like they're praying to him, but he's just like any commercial dj now to me.

Also is it just me or does armin not have the energy in the tracks he used to spin and in his sets. I dont know how to exactly say this but the whole experience was very average. And believe me I didnt think i'd ever say this. Oh well

My funny experience from the nite was the _guy_ (i'll leave out profanities caus it was probably someone from this board) next to me (front, centre) with an iio-rapture vinyl, a boa cd, a technics bag, about 4000 glowsticks, gay holo sunnies and most importantly, his TDK-CDR "Promo Only" CD with lots of texta tags to label it's musical greatness. "We love you armin" echoes in my head many times. Oh well. I guess some people take these djs a little too seriously.

meh

:p

Can i hear more of that DFSC story...seemed interesting.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed :( It's never much fun when the event doesn't live up to expectations.

My solution: make sure there's a whole bunch of mates dedicated to having a good time no matter what, and pick out all the good bits to remember :) That is, of course, if you can remember anything at all... ;)

well, it was a good experience considering it was my first very gig in my life... i'll talk about the night coz the arvo was pretty boring.

only started having fun when my mates were all drugged up(i wasn't) and started dancing their arses off @ GU, i spent around 2 hours there listening to David Morales(?) with his emotionless face and his big tanky body, than danced to Laylo and Bushwaka for another hour having a ball... than 30 mins prior to armins set, i went to GK and listened to Junkie XL, who was pretty good as well... started dancing and dancing until finally i danced to the front :D and than came armin ... i wasn't overly stunned about the set but there were some sweet trax in it, some people jumping up on the stage kinda pissed me off but i spose u get that sort of stuff, met some cool people who just started talking to me, an all round chilled atmosphere... wanted to have a rest during armin's set considering i was standing and dancing for more than 5 hours but i wasn't prepared to lose my front row spot! had a killer time during his set and than the night ended, having no place to stay @ goldies i met my mates after armins set and we ended up just camping on the beach with very little warm clothing and slept there for the night, had the bloods sucked out of us by those freakin mozzies... and when morning came, we took the train back to Brissie

i must say getting to 2 tribes was the biggest mission of my life, coz i walked prob 5k's to and from 2 tribes and after the night ended there was more walking when i was buggered
but all round good time!!!
