accept the gig or not

Hey guys I need yor advise on something, here's the deal:

A couple wants to hire me for a house party they are hosting. Under normal cercumstances I wouldn't accept this, I dont like djing at house parties but I need the cash so I am considering it. Problem is that it's a carnival party and besides the fact that they are expecting me to play commercial radio stuff etc etc I will have to play carnival music... though I may be able to fit some trance in there aswell :D

- So do you say I take the job (and the money)? I have about 1 1/2 weeks to prepare myself (music wise)

- Or do I decline and save myself the hassle?

also if anyone knows could you please recomend good carnival tracks for me to download?

is there any trance out there that has a carnival feel to it so that I can play it @ the party maybe?

thanx

personally I wouldn't do it... how long do you have to spin for and what's the pay like? Carnival music!?!?! rofl.
Cyrax
well, play high-energy music with 'fun' stuff in em ..

i'm thinking of SAXO (bruit de foret) ... i dunno, for some reason, that track has a 'carnavalesk' thing about it :conf:
djthunderbird
tracks to play at that party:

tomaz vs filterheadz - sunshine
cosmonaut - carnaval
max walder - samba del costa

these will kill their ears :D:D

anyway do it.. just burn alot of cdrs with e music and have fun :)

Don't be a puppet P'zazz, don't play music that people want you to.

Play whatever is your style, if they don't like it then too bad, it's their loss really.

BUT as i said don't be someones puppet that always says "YES", cause that'll get you no where in life as a DJ.

As I said in my original post I wouldnt accept the gig under normal cercumstances but I need the money right now, so if I will accept the job then I must play the music they want me to, it's not right to make the ones who are hiring me think that I'll play a certain type of music and then play something else.

by the sounds of this, that you will be expected to play popular radio music, and play "carnival" music...then it doesnt sound like you will be doing any mixing. cant any monkey just play music like that?

also, wtf exactly is a "carnival" party? you say a couple u kno is throwing it, so is it like carnival themed, or are they just rollin in cash that they can affort to rent carnival stuff?

ok, heres my take...i think you should talk to them and tell them that you dont play radio/carnival music, but bring along a cd player when u talk to them, and some trance cds of the style u plan you play (high energy trance like cyrax suggested)

if they are still persistant that you play radio/carnival music, then you should probably suggest that they find someone else to dj....somebody like a mobile "party" dj that just plays popular/radio/carnival music.

or you could look at like "how badly do i need the money, and how much will they pay me"

unless they are going to pay you around, or more than, what it would cost to bring in an outside mobile dj, then i think you should tell them to find someone else
