I meant is the music progressing not "club nights". and the awnser is to me imho no. while ferry, pvd & avb etc are good producers they have themselves to blame for the state of trance. Sure their tracks are still good but time to thjink fresh was after 99 not 4 years later.
4x4 patterns & huge breakdowns are a trance trademark absolutley, but
it needs to move on. it needs to find some new structures & sounds if it can. because alot of it is just barbie & ken music Plastic, generic recycled crap. |
werd . . . the dark side is calling you . . . . join while you still can :D :D it's always 'progressing' and finding new sounds. |

I think that if a club decided to play trance exclusively it would fail within 2 months. There is absolutley no way that any club could just play trance. I (and probably lots of other people here) would get sick of hearing it week in and week out, and we are trance addicts. Therefore once every 2 weeks or once a month would be the most. It gives DJs a chance to play totally different sets than what they played 2 weeks or a month ago. There arnt enough good trance tunes around to have a night every week.

I agree with this. People could have made tunes in 2000 and release them today and have them hailed as unbelievable hits which is a sad state of affairs (and imo what Nu NRG sometimes do, they have the very trademark uplifting sound from 2000). Trance may have moved on a little bit, but its basis is still in 99. Trance does need find more unique sounds, but usually when a unique sound is discovered and released, people often shun as being TOO progressive. I remember tiestos essential mix from 2001, people on the music discussion forum were saying that the first half was much too progressive for their tastes, even though it was still trancey. I think its everyone's fault (producers, dj's and listeners) that trance hasnt moved on.

Its really starting to get this way in my opinion too. :(

I think its up to producers to experiment with these new sounds, breaks, hugely different formats, and make trancey sounding songs which dont fit into the typical trance format of bar bar bar bar breakdown breakdown bar bar bar bar. As long as the music is good people will play it. Who says a slight bit of breaks cant be introduced to a trance set? The set im listening to now (Digweeds Essential Mix from october) is mostly 4/4, but there are 1 or 2 tracks that are breaky. But then again, if tiesto started playing tracks like this im sure that we would all whinge and say that he plays too many different genres and should get back to his roots.
Get back to his 2000 trance sound.
Im not one of those people. I think tiesto and other djs should experiment with new sounds, as long as its good music.
There is my huge :Crasher Kid:esque type post jam packed with my opinions. |
