Hi everyone, I'm looking to put on a trance night in Sydney. But I really need a decent venue. All the ones I know of really suck. Either they are too small, way too hot, too big, or just for some reason don't suit Trance. I'm looking for any type of venue it doesn't have to be a club. As i'm happy to bring a lighting rig, speakers, amps e.t.c.
Has anyone seen a decent venue or one that could at least be adapted to Trance. I'm kind of looking for one close to Oxford St, the city or kings cross
Thanks, Josh |

Sydney has a real venue shortage at the moment .. I remember the discussions that went on after Plastic shut down recently...
How big are we talking? A few hundred? Less? More?
If you're talking more, there's only really a couple of places - Home, Gas, the Metro (which closes at 3am). Going smaller Icebox may be good - it's quite small and has had trance events in the past... though there is a good reason people refer to it as the Shoebox :) |

If you want a truly underground feel, you could do what the hardcore rave scene does - hire out any old dirty venue, connect up some huge speakers, decks, lighting/lasers etc, and pump it away!
Underground style parties are an experience in themself... I don't think I'll ever forget Mystic 3... it was in some kind of barn shed in the middle of Liverpool showground... it rocked pretty ing hard! |

Need more info as to the numbers you expect to get to make serious suggestions, but I would look at the bars on and just off Oxford.
Have a friend who has private events upstairs at the Brighton Hotel occasionally. Can get cramped tho.
Little further away, the Forrester on Riley has a couple of pretty good rooms.
Other than that, go for a wander round the area and check them out. |

Thanks guys for the speedie replies. Sorry I forgot to give more details. I want to start of fairly small, Something we can fill.
About 150 peoples will be plenty to start off with.
Home/Gas/ARQ e.t.c. are way too big. Ice Box is out as I probably wouldn't be able to hire it on a major night such as a friday or saturday night in january
I have thought about doing an event similar to the rave scene events. If there is a venue like that near the city, the cross or Oxford st that would work i'd definately give it a try.
Alot of pubs don't have a good trance feel. As in usually many small rooms but no big rooms. Plus the rooms usually have too much light for trance.
Keep the ideas coming guys there very welcome |

Check out overdrive.com.au for rave events. The hardcore rave scene works a bit diffreently to other scenes.
Logic is a rave scene club that's held monthly at Castles on Castlereagh St in the city. Drop in to see how they're set up.
I think Castles do allow people to hire the place for their own events. |
