| is it your end? may also be your connection (even if it is broadband) or the servers where you play. |

your system appears to be quite capable of running CS smoothly. tho...may i ask what res you run it at?
also XP is kinda gay when it comes to running a lot of games. especially those that were made pre-XP. |

Uhg, I'd advise to turn the res. down to at the MOST 1024x768, 800x600 would probably run perfect but its not as pretty :) Your system cant run a res. that high.. my old 600mhz could hardly handle 800x600.. and considering how bad XP runs CS..
If you did try turning it down, well, fiddle with options going for performance over looks, and if all else fails.. reinstall HL/CS.. |

ah...there's your problem. drinkyourmilk has pretty much covered all the remedies.
also, if your comp was on for an extended amount of time, you can also restart it. that'll give a slight performance boost. i would suggest 800 x 600 for the smoothest gaming experience. not as pretty as 1024 x 768, but less choppiness is always first priority.
also, run the game on openGL if you can, and not direct3D. direct3D is a lot more demanding than openGL.
oh and tone down the decal limit to around 200 from 300, that'll also give a slight boost. and you can always tone down the quality of your smoke grenades. they lag up ppl with lower-end vidcards like a m0f0.
final advice. play in servers that have less ppl unless you like big games...(less ppl = less animations, bandwidth, etc) and smallers maps like dust, iceworld, etc (less textures on screen). |

| BTW since youve got a creative geforce grafx card i S T R O N G L Y recommend that you run it in OpenGL since, when run on Direct3d the entire game gets slowed down if more than a third of your screen is covered with sprites (smoke, explosions, etc.) i had this problem with my 2.2Ghz Intel P4 with a 128 mb Nvidia geforce 3 card, i switched to OpenGL and i never saw it again! |
