UKTA's - I Need Your Help

chris_norris
Cheers! This has helped. I wasn't really planning on Durham or Edinburgh, Durham lookes like a dull tea party town with lots of historic thigns to visit blah blah artsy blah bal poncy etc. I just slapped them two down becuase they got good Uni reputation's. Edinburgh looks posh. They just look a bit like a watered down oxford or cambridge. I've really narrowed it down to Sheffield and Newcastle, cos they look like the best vibrant type city places. Even though those two are the best uni's education wise on my list, I wanna live somewhere fun.

evil_bastard i know exactly what u mean. by i mean, somewhere dull, with nightlife and boring people. im not really arsed about places of historical interest or how 'pretty' the city is he he I live in Wigan which has all of interest to anyone and is a hole :D , i just want a good time with people that like to have a good time, so wat u sed helped :D especially the city guide. the mentality in newcastle sounds cool, a bit like what it is here only more modern with better places to be. cheers for that.

thanks for the info on sheffield as well, my best mate used to live there so i know a bit, but any info is welcome.

I should have been a bit more clear but I just meant that I'd like to live in a city I can have a laugh in with people who are up for getting caned.

Mikey about my course im doing English Lang Lit combined, all those Uni's are a bit of a bitch to get into, with Edinburgh and Durham being the most so.

Thanks for the help everyone :D

Sheffield aint too bad i live there myself. The centre is fairly clean but like anywhere it has its parts.
Nightlife aint too bad. GC is here :D and if u like house then theres Bed. Then theres the toss comercial clubs like wow & kingdom thats always filled with 15 yr old punks & beer boys.
I heard the uni is pretty decent i no a few people that go. Sheffield Hallam is very modern.
Public transport is pretty decent. The bus service runs everywhere and most hours and the tram service in the center outwards is very handy.
Only problem is they aint enough flange :whip:
But gatecrasher makes up for that :D

Newcastle has tons of flange :) The only problem is you really have to go to the cheesy bars/clubs for them. Promise gets a few, but not nearly as many as other clubs because it's more for the music.

But even as a geordie, I have to say geordie lasses can be a bit 'unfeminine'. In the middle of winter when it's pouring with snow the toon has a reputation for lasses walking round like slappers as if it's summer! I mean seriously they do not wear very much even if it's snowing. I think North News reported a couple of people who died last winter just walking home in their t-shirts! Idiots. (The funniest story in the local paper was an old man freezing to death while waiting for the bus!) And I've always lived round here but I don't find geordie accents very attractive in women, but some others might disagree. Call me weird, but I think some Irish lasses have lush accents, and posher parts of Southern England. Scotland's lasses are a love or hate thing, they either sound really sexy or sound like a dog!

The buses round here are like everywhere I guess - a pain in the arse, and all public transport pretty much finishes before midnight, so there are massive queues for taxis where most fighting occurs. Newcastle council are idiots. But as a student you will be within walking distance of the clubs, and Foundation, so that doesn't matter. And as I say, a year from now, if we do get 24hr licensing by then, I expect they will have much later metros/buses. Everyone round here is just gagging for all-night licences and all-night clubs - I know I am!

dan, what are you on about? theres PLENTY of flange about in sheff, some ing quality birds, you just gotta open your eyes man.

I would avoid Edinburgh, seeing as you are a SHOKK/Flutlicht fan the only nights you will find similar music in Scotland is my night Terminal in Glasgow or the occasional Room at the Top night which is out in the sticks and full of junky -pigs.

Edinburgh was at one point the aids capital of Europe, however, I think Kilmarnock now has that title, you'll have to ask Technaut that one :)

If you live in Edinburgh you may struggle to understand the local dialect as they all seem to sing their sentences rather than speak them and end every sentence with like, like. You see what I mean like. Its annoying like.

Glasgow won it in 1990 and tourism soared and the city cleared out it's slums and built some fancy new monuments.

Cleared out our slums, time you visited Glasgow again methinks! :D
