Anybody using Maschine to sequence external synths?

I'm re-exploring the idea of buying another Maschine so that I can work away from Cubase a little more.
It seems ideally setup to act as both a drum machine and sequencer so I was wondering if any of you dudes are doing just that?
I'm not looking for full on DAW style automation, more like drums and maybe half a dozen tracks of midi to control a few analogue synths.
Oh, and as it'll me a Mk2 model now, how are you finding doing all this is standalone mode with no screen? |

| Why not buy genome on iPad? I sequence synths with that, synced to cubase even |

I dunno, part of me thinks that I might as well just use Cubase if I start using iPad apps like that.
Plus I'm not really a fan of touchscreen controls, I like tactile feedback. |

Just buy a line 6 mobilizer
Genome is midi only, very straightforward.
Machine is just a controller, dead without the PC |

I know, I had one. Thing is that I don't have to sit at the PC to use it, I can work it from the UI. It send midi out so I should be able to set up sequences and run them direct from the controller itself. |

| I've tried sequencing my hardware synths with Maschine a while ago just for the hell of it, but it was not very elegant IMO. I'm not crazy about Maschine's DAW-like capabilities, though, so take that into consideration. I definitely prefer working with either a dedicated software DAW or a dedicated hardware sequencer when working with hardware synths. I actually sorta miss my old Roland MC-50mkII. My old E-mu XL7 Command Station was pretty cool for sequencing hardware synths, too, and it had built-in drums/synth (well, ROMpler). |

Just not feelin' it tbh. I find apps annoying to use at the best of times.
btw - there's a TOFT ATB32 for sale on Ebay ;)

I'm with you there, it's why I sold my one.
I still like the idea of using it as a mini DAW away from DAW though. I've looked at a lot of hardware sequencers and they're all either too expensive or too limited for my needs.
Maybe I'm just not sure what I want until I start using it :p |

Since there is this talk round here of getting back to retro basics, maybe get a multi-track reel to reel!
In terms of a sequencer I used to use a mother synth, the Yamaha SY85, and as long as you have a dedicated clock somewhere that did a grand job of sequencing.
AKAI MPC would probably be your best bet. |

Reel to reel, lmao. That would be fun for about 10 minutes :p
I'm pretty sure what I'm looking for doesn't exist yet.
Oddly the closest match is that Genome app that Raphie mentioned, but I just dislike using touchscreens for detailed control.
Still, it's only a fiver so it's worth a shot I reckon. |

Hmmmm, now I'm thinking about MIDI routing and getting a headache. |
