watz the australian headphone website??

dj_nomiz
since my comp was reprogrammed, i lost the website to the australian based headphone site... i have no idea wat itz called, coz i only visited it once, and now that i need to buy headphones, i want to have a look @ that site

i hear the sony mdr v6 is excellent, and when i visited the aussie based sony website, realised they were hiding that product, neone know if itz actually possible to get it here in australia? if not neone know where i can get the technics rp-dj1200 from? as in aussie net based site, or else do they sell it @ central station or allan's in brisbane??

Yes the Sony MDR V6 are excellent headphones...Sasha uses them, enough said. I was looking for a pair in Brisbane and the only place i could find them at was Videopro...they have shops all over the place. They go for either $290 or $220 depending on who you speak to and which shop. You can get the Technics from Sanity DanceArena in the city or www.storedj.com.au

I ended up getting the Sennheiser HD280 Pros mainly because i tried them and liked them. I really wanted the MDR V6 but i didn't want to pay that much for something i'd never heard or seen. Also the replacement earpads from BeyerDynamic which are supposed to make them heaps more comfortable according to the big thread in the DJ Booth forum....well I couldn't source them in Australia.

Good luck...don't be afraid to try as many different headphones as you can put your hands on. Each person has different requirements and taste!

thanx man, wat i did was write to sony feedback on the aussie site, and it actually surprised me that they would write back in 1 day... (they did not sell it on the site they sony v6... ofcourse) and i comaplained saying they only offered overpriced v700 and that they were bad quality etc. pretty rudely... i added useless (i was not sure if they were bad however, but i trust the forums on headphones and this site that said v700 was crap) and to have him reply in a well manered letter kind of made me feel guilty :( but wat he said was that i should try the 700 and that i would be surprised with the quality... hahaha, no thanx... hey did u find the v6 headphones @ video pro in indroo?? coz im going headphone hunting soon and im gonna look around @ central and other places, but i dont know if i want to fork out so much money for a headphone that i neva tried, so i'll see if i can try the technics and sony first to see the difference... but im not a dj and my ear skills are very limited, wat are some pointers i should be looking @? (i'm getting deckz end of year, thatz y i want the headphones)

cheers

VideoPro in the city was the only one that had them but all of them can order them in. You have to ask for the Sony MDR V7506 they are exactly the same as the V6's just rebadged and released after the V6 were discontinued and everyone complained. Most stores will have to order them in though so you won't really be able to try before you buy.

Do you have any friends with decks and headphones you can practice on? Cause it's probably good to play around on as many different setups first and learn to beatmatch. That way you know what sort of sound works best for you in a headphone.

I'd say you want something which goes loud, isolates as much sound as possible and has defined bass(bass that you can hear clearly and find easy to beatmatch with). Most headphones have enough treble to hurt your ears so there shouldn't be much to look for there. The last thing you want is to get a gig in a club and the monitors are so loud that you can't hear whats coming out of your own headphones properly!

I've only had my setup for about 3 months though so maybe some of the more seasoned DJ's can give a better opinion???

unfortunately i dont have ne dj friends/ none of my friends are into trance so none of em have turntables, im just gonna have to take a leap of faith in2 buying them *sigh, hopefully i will really love mixing, but thanx for the info, might cruise to the city soon and chek out some headphones, coz we are on holidayz now :D :D

Ahh...well just go to all the shops and try them! You may want to get like a $100 pair of numarks or stantons first up. Then when you get more experience and have an opinion...go for a high end pair of cans.

but wouldn't that be like a waste of money if u could afford the higher stuff and get the normal range? does it really help develop your skills much more when u start off with normal ranged headphones? i dont think i would have enuff money to buy normal range and than head for the higher head phones

If you can afford a decent pair then get a decent pair...i just wasn't sure on your monetary status.

Hell if i could have afforded it i would have gotten a pair of Sennheiser HD25's!!! But $440 is a bit out of my price range and i'd kinda feel like an idiot paying that much money for a pair of headphones!

Most people are happy with whatever choice they make be it Sony, Technics, Pioneer, Sennheiser etc. I was looking at the Pioneer SEDJ5000's for $200 as a few people on this forum swear by them. I think i would have been just as happy with them as i am with the HD280's.
