why would they bother to hire a guy they should know will not play their format. It makes them look bad.
I've been in this situation but with no name djs so it wasn't really hard but with someone that isn't exactly a nobody, well you need to a be a little more diplomatic.
But ya, as a promoter, it can just be awful watching someone play music that is making the entire club fall asleep. |

| There was some american dj who was playing in greece or somewhere similar who was also asked to play more commercial music and eventually taken off the decks.. Can't remember where i saw the video. Just shows poor homework by the bookers as looney said. |

I remember something like this happened to Armand Van Helden at Space in the mid 00's, Ibiza. They booked him to play house, so what does he do?
Plays 5 minutes of house, then drops some particularly lame hiphop. And doesn't stop. Completely cleared a 2000 person dancefloor in under 10 minutes, and gets asked to leave after refusing to play house. Now that is technique.
with Ferrer - it cuts both ways. Don't sign up to play at one of the clubs with the highest douche ratings on earth, and be expect to play anything else but Guetta tracks (the afrojack remixes of course). |

I'm reminded of Bill Hicks talking about being cut from Letterman
I'm paraphrasing but he called it an abusive relationship basically saying they wanted him on the show because he was edgy, challenging ect, then we he got there they told him to be none of those things because it offended the advertisers |

Anyone that's ever DJ'd or owned a club knows these nights happen. The vibe just isn't there. The issue is as a club owner, pulling a DJ off decks is a bad move and just makes the situation worse, prime example is this case. Mansion is getting lit up by EDM fans all across the world right now. Not the kind of pub they need a few weeks before WMC. The only thing you can do is work through the night and realize tomorrow is another day.
We all know Dennis Ferrier is a good DJ. He obviously got plugged into one of those bad vibe nights. At the same time, Mansion booked a DJ that couldn't pull them out of the situation. |
