nice little write up here
Canada’s Maher Daniel & Casa (aka Mike Casa) are both upcoming, pivotal figures on the Montreal scene. Daniel’s remix of Tone Depth’s ‘Rumblefish’ (Bedrock) was #1 on Beatport’s techno charts for over two and a half months, cementing a relationship with the label that sees ‘Music, Machines & Life’ introducing a very exciting vibe to the proceedings here. A low-slung, heavy hitting tech monster is the order of the day. |

When I first started producing I wanted to do bigroom $$$ music so i was using Mike Casa. Then I started getting more into forward thinking music but still wanted to keep the same branding and people to know it was Me, so I used Casa. I've since abandoned "Mike Casa" but use "Casa" for certain releases:
Nowadays I've found my sound and just produce under my real name (Michael Gracioppo). All the music that comes out on Casa these days is basically just to express myself. Nothing that comes out on Casa is planned or orchestrated it's just the result of jam sessions with friends or being influenced by stuff that doesnt fit what I'm trying to represent as Michael Gracioppo.
I started producing way before djing, to be honest I wouldn't DJ if I didn't have to. Being a producer first, I love the process of making music and confining myself to one sound is terrible for my soul and creativity. Realizing that the music business is in fact a business, I now keep my catalogues clear.
I'm inspired by my favourite underground guys such as Burial & DJ Koze as much as I love Lady Gaga - Just Dance and deadmau5 - Strobe. The only people that act too underground to appreciate a well produced pop record are kids that have no idea how the industry works, have never accomplished anything of minute credibility and play vinyl because they've convinced themselves that it makes up for the fact they can't make an interesting four bar loop. My two favourite records of the moment are the latest Fachwerk release and Nicki Minag - Moment 4 Life. Good music is good music wether the artist is some chick that wears retarded sunglasses and a one-piece latex outift or a German techno legend. Little do many people know that 2 tracks on the upcoming Beyonce album are produced by guys that are currently topping the techhouse charts on Beatport. |
