| is it true that most club djs out there use the pioneer 100's. i think they are like 450 a unit which is not that bad. Rane mixers are also good of what i have heard. Im looking at the cmx3000 pioneer but i don't know how useful it is. im looking for a mixer that has at least 2 channels but 4 would be ideal. i have about 4 grand to spare. it would be nice if i can spend less obviously. |

| If I had $4000 to work with, I'd probably still buy the system that I have now. I've got a Pioneer DJM-600 for about $1200 and two Pioneer CDJ-100s for about $400 each. That means that you can spend another few hundred on a nice case (my best friend built mine), an x-stand for about $100 and a good pair of headphones for another $100 or so. This will leave you at least $1500 left over to buy lots of music with, because that will be your biggest expense! |

I own a Denon DN-2500F Dual CD Player. I also use one in the club that I spin at.
Over the years that I have been Dj'ing, I have used a variety of units, but none come close to the DN-2500F.
Just my $0.02 cents...

At amnesia ( the club i spin at )
we have 2 techs, a Rane MP44 mixer and a Pioneer CMX-3000 Dual CD Player.
Our next investment will actually be two CDJ 1000's. The CD mixer is nice.... but it isnt like the CDJ's. The 100's are fun to use, good at getting the job done, but if you have ever touched 1000's..... you would know.
Also....almost all beatmatching programs on mixers/CD players are not exact. I dont know why people would call themselves "DJ's" if they themselves are not beatmatching and creating the mix.
No flaming.......just not a fan at all of the button pushing press play and go auto-beatmatching "DJ's" |

i just went through this whole process of scoping out CD decks. I ended up getting a pioneer CDJ500-II-LTD because the price is right and they are fairly standard...
The CDJ100s seem pretty cool.. a little bit limited, but not bad. certainly not worth $400 to me though.
I also hear great things about pretty much all the Denon decks. Denon's rep is really good.
Check eBay - you'd be supprised how cheap CD decks are going for there - lots being sold, but not a huge demand.
I got the CDJ500 w/ an odyssey case for $195, shipped! :O

The CDJ-100 is actually around $260-$350 varying on which place you get it from..
anything over that is definately not worth it.
as MERiDiAN5i2 said, eBay is the cheapest place to get used and new equipment |

hmm not too bad.. but i paid less on eBay for a CDJ500-II-LTD *with* a nice hardcase :toothless
only problem with eBay is it's possible to get something that's dead or not properly working.. only happened to me once.. i bought a minidisc deck off eBay and it worked fine except it didnt record properly.. but I ended up getting it resolved to my satisfaction - decided a hella cheap play only deck wouldnt be so bad, since it had digital outs and my current one did not, so I ended up getting half the money back and a real nice play only deck for $40. fine with me. :)
most people on eBay will resolve problems, they dont want negative feedback or harassment from eBay... just dont buy from people with no or bad feedback.

a1: cd decks: pioneer, denon tables: technics
a2: depends how much you want to spend
vestax pcv275
anything from allen & heath
rane TTM series
any of the pioneer DJM's
... are the ones that come to my mind
a3: no clue, sorry
a4: amateur gear, IMHO. |

1. Pioneer, Denon
2. Pioneer DJM500/600/3000
Vestax PCV-275
Tascam X-9 (Amazing!)
Allen & Heath
Rane ($$$$ for quality)
3. The CDJ-100 has 3 effects. Wah, jet (flange), and zip. All sound good and has the hold button.
4. If your budget doesnt stretch so far, ADJ is ok.. but Gemini do have better features for the $$$ |

| Hey Meridian, what kind of condition is your CDJ500 in. I have been in the market for a cdj and was planning on getting the 100 but now seeing the 500's price on ebay I am going to get that. I have found 2 so far, one seller claims he has had a Pioneer technician cleaned the laser etc etc and the other seller says that his was a B stock item, which means it was return to the factory for fixing. Just curious if your seller said the same stuff. I just don't want to buy a CD dexk and find out it doesn't work. |
