thought i'd put this up for the space sim fanatics. not much is known at this stage but apparently coming in 2011. the engine looks pretty decent for an independent.

Seamless Entertainment Announces New Space Combat Game, SOL: Exodus
Experienced team bringing back the glory of classic gaming genre; new video trailer reveals mysterious storyline.
AUSTIN, Texas, July 20, 2011—Seamless Entertainment™, an independent game developer located in Austin, Texas, is setting its sights on re-energizing a faded genre once known for legendary hits like Wing Commander® and FreeSpace™. Seamless unveiled its first trailer today for SOL: Exodus™, the company’s 3D space-action game. The game, currently in development, will be a downloadable title with a planned release later this year.
SOL: Exodus will deliver epic space battles featuring enormous capital ships, hordes of spacecraft and beautifully rendered planetary battlegrounds in an action-packed presentation reminiscent of iconic sci-fi TV shows and movies.
The Seamless team is led by game industry veterans Dan Magaha (Firaxis Games/2K/NCsoft) and Chris Stockman, design director on the mega-hit Saints Row for Xbox 360.
“With SOL: Exodus, players will enjoy gameplay staples of the genre such as dogfighting and engaging giant capital ships,” said Creative Director Stockman. “But we‘ve also introduced some unique special abilities for added mission depth and interactivity. I’ll be talking more about those as we get closer to launching later this year.”
In SOL: Exodus, players will assume the role of fighter pilot in a battle for the survival of the human race, commanding their multi-purpose tactical fighter in battles across the most recognizable landmarks in our Solar System. Together with a squadron of wingmen, they will dogfight in the rings of Saturn, engage enormous capital ships around Neptune, thwart a trap in the chaotic, intense atmosphere of Jupiter, and much more!
“It’s not just a coincidence that this project is coming together in Austin, where the Wing Commander series was born back in the 1990s,” said Studio Director Magaha. “Austin has really become a hub for determined indie developers. I think we’ve got some of that maverick personality in this team; we’re just driven by the goal of making this game great.”
I wanted to chime in to elaborate on some of my quotes from the article.
"Wing Commander with a touch of X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter and Freespace", the pacing isn't going to be the same as was found in those games.
What I mean by this is that with today's technology you can really do some spectacular battle sequences. We are now no longer restricted to a few fighters at a time. Our battles are far more frantic than what past entries in the genre have done.
Remember the battle sequences in the BSG remake?
Well lets just say that I'm a HUGE fan of the series and I kept asking myself why no company has tried to capture that magic in a game? Our technology is perfectly capable of doing so yet no one has attempted to (for various reasons).
"If you look at past things in the genre they have been boring and appealed to a very niche type of gamer." he said."
When I said this I wasn't referring to Wing Commander, X-Wing, Freespace, etc. Those classics were most certainly NOT boring. However, (without naming names) some of the more recent entries have, IMO, been lackluster to say the least. I can tell you this you won't be fighting space pirates in our game. :)
Anyways, I very much look forward to sharing more details about our game to you guys in the very near future!
Thanks for reading!

Sweet! Its been about damn time, a few more of this and i migjt be convinced that there might actually be some sort of a god out there.
BTw ever since ive been able to emulate the ps1 on my phone ive discovered that there a re a few tittles out ther to e that ive missed. So the Colony Wars trilogy for the psx is worth checking out if you havent already to shorten the time until this comes out.
Philby
i just logged in to send you a PM about this but of course you've already made a thread haha
must say im a bit disappointed with the lack of, say, shield management or mission design where you just have to stay alive to win. but beggars cant be choosers.

someone (not from the devs) posted on twitter that you can spin around and continue on your original axis while firing at a tangent. not a new idea of course but a reasonably rare one in space combat games. i hope this is accurate.
Moongoose
That was a great move in wing commander...fly into the enemy carrier, turn on shelton (or was it sheldon, i cant remember) slide, spin around the axis and blast away at the enemy interior
