Alright, I'll ask....

Why is it taboo to move the master fader? :) For a year now I've been mixing my tracks so they peak at -8dB and pumping the volume by normalizing it later(just like a good little boy should).

Can someone explain to me what moving the master fader does? Like, squash dynamics, lower quality, kill puppies somewhere, something? Not that I'm going to, I'm happy with my way of mixing, I'm just curious.

I've tried doing it myself (it took a lot of guts, I was thinking of those puppies), but I can't hear any difference. Sorry that I'm such a n00b... D:

In a modern 32 bit fp or 64 bit DAW there are no differences. Search for lots of angry threads about how there are no differences.

Oh okay, sorry. It's like DJ RANN and Mono huh? God now I feel bad.

I render all my stuff in 32 bit anyways, someone said it had more headroom or something if you normalized it with a device that can handle 32 bit.

Okay, not afraid to touch the master fader anymore, don't need to bring that up in next week's therapy session. Thanks guys.
