I reckon it can be done. A monthly night would be just about right -- with a reasonably small-sized venue (not QBH, not a matchbox), and the right promotion (you can count on me to work my arse off for this one). They tried at Evolution for about a month to do a weekly Saturday night, but it died -- maybe because Evolution is seen as too teeny-bopper?
We only need to recall Steve vs Dave at Transatlantic to see what it could be like. The fact is that SOOOO many people like trance: I've converted many mates to the real stuff after they've been to Twister/Cheers and heard Ian van Dahl...
Let's do this, folks. I'm also with whoever mentioned the crasher-style playlist -- harder stuff (tech-trance etc) as well as uplifting :D |

hell yeah a trance night in melbourne, monthly, something nice and intimate yet at the same time big epic, and fulfilling just like the genre.. venues are a new question.. i don't mind room too much my self, although i am not too sure on what kinda finances permit stips to go ahead, he's got my support! :D

Wh0rd Dave :)
An Uplifting Trance night is a fantastic idea, even start it off as a monthly event or a one off event to begin with.
When i started playing out a while ago, (1st gig was in December 2000) This was around the time when NRG/HardHouse was big, so it was hard for ppl like myself & Dave to get out there, because this sound had pretty much grabbed the Melbourne dance scene by the balls :(
In some way i felt i was forced to play a more Harder Type of Trance sound as well as uplifting. Around that time it was disapointing to see ppl walking away from a dance floor when good tracks where being played.
But in the last year or so its been different, and alot better in terms of good Trance music :) Also what I realized from the set that Dave & I played @ Transatlantic that maybe nows the time that Melbourne is ready for a regular night, or a event in support of the Trance movement eh? :)
Stipzy, uv got my support
Dave, luv your work
everyone, thanx again for the feedback & support again guys.

ok my 2 cents worth ;)
of course there is room in melbourne for an event such as this:
many people are sick of listening to nrg and the like...
i think if an event was held in melb like this, many ppl would return to uplifting trance and get away from the hard nrg being played...
um a major reason y i think it will work is because there is nothing like this out there, and with steve and dave djing (if they do)
this will attract many people and if the venue is right it most definately will work.
i think it will add a bit of variety to melbourne, also a bit of spice
im all for the idea, its brillent
lets hope it works :stongue: |

yeah i agree, NRG, and all other genres have been hammered to death around town. i do not even go out anywhere besides the big parties because i just won't really listen to any thing besides trance.. call me narrow minded i don't care.. it's what i love :)
yeah inacoma, steve and i do DJ, hopefully more often than not.. we'll do our best to put on a good show wherever and whenever it may be! |
