Basic home network issue (probably simple)

D-res
I thought I was moderately well-versed with computers but I'm a bit more of a neophyte than I imagined. We have a wi fi network running at the house with two laptops connected wirelessly and one desktop plugged directly into the router. I can't share files between any of the computers. On my last network I remember being able to open a folder and there would be my computer and my roommates and we could drag and drop anything. Regardless of what I try I can't find a way to share any files whatsoever. What am I not doing?

dude, you gotta share a single folder on the network. create a folder called "d-res shared folder" or something, right click it, and there should be a network sharing option or something like that in the folder options. you can't just access the other person's HD.

And then where do I go to access said folder on the other computer

you go to your network connections/network and sharing center/just plain network (there's probably an icon on your desktop, i'm pretty sure the icon is defaulted on the desktop when you change your start menu bar to "classic"). if not it's in the start menu somewhere. anyways, the other computers on the network *should* be listed there.

in windows vista (and probably in XP) you have to go to the network and sharing center and turn on "network discovery" on every computer on the network, along with "file sharing" (which should already be turned on). that'll make the PCs visible. any folder that you've shared on the network should be visible when you double-click on whichever PC that you're trying to share to/from.

andy if anything give me a call before you go to work tomorrow and i'll set 'er up for you. just let me know.
