What does 'lol' stand for these days? It's not 'laughing out loud' anymore, is it?

Example of its current use:

quote:
i dont know lol

quote:
i posted that like last month lol

Has it really become so overused that it completely lost any meaning? Word padding in written language makes no sense to me.
kadomony
lol = "i have nothing else to say"
tubularbills
lol is more of a chuckle to me. similar to "hah"
LOL is when i'm really laughing.
Fledz

Ban all Internet-speak.

Speaking of which, do you guys actually pronounce it as L O L?

In Dutch lol is a real word, meaning fun (coincidence?), so everytime I'm reading the word lol, I'll recite the Dutch word in my head.

My ex-boyfriend is currently dating a girl who SAYS "lol" orally in conversation.

:stongue: Oh it was so great meeting her.

I have to admit I actually catch myself right before slipping out a "lol". It's ing sad :(

This site and other boards actually used to be a lot worse about net-speak, though. As the Internet became more popular, people realized that one way to set themselves apart from the idiotic crowd was not to use "lol," "omg," and "u" in every post, and to write their posts using conventional print-style paragraphs. Now practically everyone does this and message boards are much more pleasant to read.

I went to see District 9 with some of my nerd friends, and one of them did say it :(

I guess that's one of the reasons we don't see each other that much anymore.
