Serato Question
View this Thread in Original format
Tony Morello
so i recently got serato for my top 40 club gigs and i'm still learning the ins and outs

anyway, i started with a crate containing everything, this is when i analyzed my files, after which i decided it would be best to create multiple crates and divide it up into genres and stuff

now when i load serato some of the crates won't have the songs loaded and i'll have to drag the files back into them

i checked the website and i think i have it narrowed down, my question to you guys is, is this my problem and what i need to do?

I've never had that problem before. I don't use crates though. Using the browse and search function usually gets me to what I want pretty quickly.

I can't say I've ever had this problem either Tony, and I use crates ALL the time...

Which version of Serato are you using? I assume 1.9.1?
Tony Morello
i think so, the laptop is at the club, i'll try the database thing on friday when i go in

i don't use crates either... but the search is pretty quick.:)

Yep, I haven't used the crate feature either, I pretty much have my entire library in the loaded list and just scroll through or search...

I can't believe you guys don't use crates.

That's insane! Obviously whatever works for you and all that which is great but Crates helps me sift through everything so much quicker.

Granted it can still get a bit messy but if you want to play a certain genre and you've got your tracks split up nicely or you have your 'latest' tunes in another folder it makes it much easier to quickly load them.

Unless of course you guys just know straight off the bat what you're going to play in which case fair play :)

Not sure exactly why that's happening to you Tony, Have you tried (I'm sure you have) the support forums on Serato, they've got a lot of helpful guys on there and your problem has most likely already been encountered before.

Hope you get it sorted soon. What do you think of it in general (serato)?
Tony Morello
for my top 40 gig it's great, i have my music divided up into genres (80s, 90s, RnB, etc.) and having all the music analyzed i can sort by bpm and practically mix with my eyes closed

it's easier to make a jump from different tempo ranges and stuff too, i used to have 2 huge cd books with all my top 40 stuff in there and none of it was labelled with bpm, so i'd have to know my music really well to remember if a certain song will be able to mix with another one and trying to do that when you're loaded got tough (which did happen on occasion)

so the club owner went out and got serato and a laptop for me to use in the club (which is why it stays there, i just bring in a thumb drive and update the music every week) it's a private club and the owner had gone out and bought all new sound, lighting and dj gear to have me come play there, they only had a touchscreen jukebox previously

it's only been a couple weeks so i'm still in the process of getting everything operating properly and tailored to the way i play

i just read a thread where your bragging about bringing your thumb drive with music on it to clubs and playing gigs. in order for your tracks on the thumb drive to have crates and overviews, you have to make sure that the overviews are being saved onto your thumb drive. if you take your thumb drive to gig a, use it and then go to gig b, the info from the tracks wont show up because it will be on the computer at gig a. well the bpm and length will cuz serato attaches that info to the track, but the crates will not be there.

i have an external hd. i can take that sucker anywhere, plug in, and have all my music the way i want it in a second. its because i have serato saving all of my crates onto my hd, not my computer.

hope that helps..

this computer stays at the club and i just bring new tunes in and stick them to the internal drive, it has nothing to do with the thumb drive, i always copy onto the computer i'm using and don't read the music off the thumb drive while playing

i analyzed the tracks then decided to sort them into crates, i'll try the database thing i found, from what i've read that seems to be the problem, was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem
DizkokidD
are you maping your crates to the thumb drive or to the internal hdd in the laptop?

i dont have serrato, but it sounds like you are copying them, but yet you are still mapping serrato to see the thumb drive instead of the internal HDD
