...And it couldn't have happened at a most interesting time. Just before the 3.0 firmware update.
About 3 days ago my brother calls me while I'm on the road and says, the PS3 stopped reading discs (PS1/2/Blueray/etc.). No loading icon on the home screen or anything. I called Sony and they told me it will cost $149 to repair the PS3 because it's the first model that was released and it's not really supported anymore.
I wanted to find out if anyone has had a similar problem with their PS3 and have possibly found a solution to fix the issue without sending it in. Tomorrow I use a vacuum to suck out all the dirt from the fan area and anywhere else to see if it's dirt that's sitting on the lens :p
EDIT: I'm told that if you insert a disc and the game's label side doesn't move when you put it back out, it probably means the Blueray drive is not functional. If it does move, then it's dirt....My motor doesn't move :/ |

Beware, though, as he likely has one that is backwards-compatible with PS2 games currently... and the PS3 slim is not. |

Exactly! Well I'm gonna try the vacuum this morning to see. Otherwise, time to pay up. |
