I have a Intel Pentium dual-core processor
2.6GHz processor speed.
6GBRAM 64xbit Vista

and i got this 23" widescreen hd monitor...
which i cant use to its full capacity since i dont have a nice hdmi compatible vid card..

im clueless when it comes to video cards and all that....
what would i have to do to upgrade? will my standard power supply be able to power a decent - great video card??

i wouldnt mind dropping 200 bucks on a video card...but if i can get something cheaper then yeah..prolly better..

i would just use it for some simple gaming..nothing extreme and for viewing HD stuff on the web and what not...

any help plz?

You need to be a bit more specific. Last time I checked you don't use HDMI conectors for computer to monitor connections. (might be wrong I'm always out of date with new stuff) Does your video card have DVI conectors? or just VGA? Also is your computer a brand computer or a "built from the ground up" one? There's no way to know what power supply you have with the information you gave out.

ok sorry ..its just VGA....it doesnt have the DVI slot...
and its an HP...purchased jus a few weeks ago..
built by HP...

Well I can't give you real info, but I can help you with what kind of info you need to put here in order to get answers from the people who are savvy about this.

First you need to search for the exact model of your HP computer, with that people can know what type of mother board it has and what type of power supply it comes with.

That way they can tell you what kind of stuff you can put in, you also need to come up with a budget of what you want to spend so they can advise you of stuff within your budget.

I don't think I'm missing anything else, just have patience, I did a thread like yours before I bought my video card and the dudes here helped me allot.

Cheers

Great card, plenty of video memory for playing in higher resolutions, and a built in HDMI port. Enjoy.

If you want to play next gen games, it's probably worth splurging a little more on a 4870..but if you don't care about maxing out newer stuff, stick with the 4850.

The cards draw lots of power (especially the 4870), so you may need to upgrade your power supply to something like this.

Either way your total will be below $200 and you'll be set for several years at least. Make sure to download the newest Radeon drivers once you get the card for best performance. The included CD is likely 6 months out of date.
