Le Mans 24 Hour 2009

Trance Nutter
Anyone else doing the hard yards tonight and watching on ONE?

Coverage starts 10pm eastern (I think), theres about 8-10 hours overnight and then the last 4 or so hours sunday night. Check your local guides :p

LMP1:
Audi looking very strong as always. Their new R15 looks the business, however apparently Peugeot have issued a protest about the car, not sure on what grounds.

Peugot have a diesel-hybrid this year and a strong complement of F1 drivers. Took pole at qualifying and looking racey, however it will be interesting to see how it plays out as they had the fastest car last year but poor fuel economy which allowed Audi to win. David Brabham driving in LMP1 this year for the French team after 2 wins in succession in GT1 for Aston Martin.

Talking about Aston, they've got their LMP1 cars out this year. Chassis by Lola, engine by Aston. One being run by the Charouz team (who did development work for AML in last year's race) and 2 by AMR in a very sexy (and legendary) Gulf Oil livery.

GT1:
With no factory run DBR9's in GT1 the Corvettes are looking very likely to take it. I think I read somewhere too this is the last year Corvette Racing will be competing in GT1, next year they're entering GT2.

GT2 has the normal complement of Porsche's and Ferrari's. Dane Allan Simonsen (who spends a good amount of time driving in Australia) is in a Ferrari F430.

Some interesting names this year:
Marino Franchitti - younger brother of Dario (GT2, Drayson, Aston Martin Vantage)
Leo Mansell - son of Nigel (GT2, Modena, Ferrari F430)
Vanina Ickx - daughter of Jacky (LMP1, Creation)
Bruno Senna - nephew of Ayrton (LMP1, Oreca)
Nicolas Prost - son of Alain (LMP1, Speedy Racing, Lola-Aston)

I reckon ONE is the best thing on free-tv for ages. Brilliant move by 10 imo.
