Inspired by Ian's worst signings in football thread , im curious to know what suggestions folks have for the opposite scenario where clubs made huge judgements in error by letting extremely valuable players leave when they were still in their prime and did not want to leave or were indifferent towards leaving their current club.
Ofcourse statements like Torres to liverpool from Atletico or Ronaldinho from PSG to Barca dont count as we arnt looking for unavoidable situations where players left a smaller club for a European powerhouse rather the player moving to a club at a similar level to the club he left.
Some that come to mind are:
Henry from Juventus to Arsenal - This might be a dubious claim as Henry wasnt really flourishing in turin but at the same time , Marcello Lippi didnt play him as a striker and thus wasnt able to bear the fruits of his full potential that he displayed at Monaco and then ofcourse at the Arse.
Makelele from Madrid to Chelsea - Guess Madrid didnt think a tireless holding midfielder was glamorous enough to play among the galacticos.
Robinho from Madrid to Manchester City - Putos didnt play him properly. He got pissed and Madrid ended up losing one of their most skilled players.
Jaap Stam from Manchester United to Lazio - Even fergie admitted he screwed up with that one.
Obafemi Martins from Inter to Newcastle - Personally , i rate this guy highly not least because of his exceptional work ethic. |
