Howling Review: Axwell, Steve Angelo @ Avaland

Axwell tore the roof off the house. Angelo Set it on fire. Maybe it was the DJ's (even Annie played some sick ass tracks) but the crowd and vibe in LA was way better than the crowd vibes in SF. Almost got too drunk, but i made it through somehow... Axwell set was so good i held going to the bathroom for like an hour cuz i didnt wanna miss a track haha...

Axwell brought out many many classics that you badly want to hear on the club soundsystem and on top of it they were always a new remix or vs another track. His seamless switches between two tracks breaksdowns was incredible... I see why he sold out in Miami. Some of the many classics:

Junior Jack - Creme? (not sure which track exactly but def a junior jack classic from years back)
Underworld - Born Slippy
Coldplay - Clocks (remix?)
Fatboy Slim - Right Here Right Now!!!(crowd went nuts)
Delerium - Silence (remix?) vs?
BOOKA SHADE - Body Language vs?
White Stripes - 12 Nation Army
INSOMNIAC - CANT GET NO SLEEP (remix?) (havent heard this live since 2001)
Clockwork Orange Theme (Judge Jules always plays this toon actual name anyone? last time i heard this was judge jules in London 04)
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony Vs Coldplay - Clocks (remix?)

Steve Angello also played many recognizeable classics but i after Axwells set i decided to not write em up...Ive already forgotten them... He played im in miami bitch, Depeche mode - Enjoy the Silence?
That vocal track everyone knew the lyrics too from like the mide 90s house.

But does anyone know the last track of the night? TOONAGE

Hearing angello inform the crowd that its 6am and sayin something like "you better get ed up cuz this is going to be a ultra long set" was sick... i was about to leave but i had to stay...

Um did i meet any TA's besides Mikey? I had white shoes, mohawk, always in the middle of the circles like break raving.

The journey home with no ride:@ 7:30 Walking down hollywood till the rosevelt hotel down to santa monica taking the bus towards santa monica, stupidly mistaking san vicente Bl for my friends street san vicente and getting off the bus, then walking down san vicente to cienga down to wilshire and taking the bus to sanata monica and walking a half hour from the promenade to my boys house and arriving at 10:30 ... brutal... but well worth it.

:stongue: Classic.

Track list is a wet dream.
Was the set recorded?

Many DJ's have been playing that Insomniac remix recently. The vocals start really smoothly. Must be a really good mixed vs. track.

Axwell's set was recorded, Angello's was not. I felt like I was in Europe or Miami. The place was hella packed for Angello (upstairs and downstairs). Started thinning out after 4ish.

Nice chillen w/ you Zoulas after Miami. Let us know when your back in town.

Did my tips on getting in work?

Totally, that could have been the best set i ever heard. Well at least top 5 for sure. The vibe felt like a continuation of miami. Once that set comes out... its gonna be epic reliving the set... The mashups and vs were incredible.

I used to really hate when DJ's pulled the "Digweed" and build up the song and switch it to a new track instead of dropping the main part of the song. (As digweed loves to play 30-40 seconds of a song) But Axwell did this and it just kept the energy level extremely high... im too stoked to hear this set.

Would say i was blown away the same way like i was when i saw Desyn Masiello for the first time at King King in 05. Amazing DJ.

Tips hella helped, although i lagged and did not get on the honey lounge list, my one name on the guestlist was enough for the bouncers to let me and my two friends in under my name on the guestlist. HUge break. Yea, i blazed on the floor of the club, hella people did... haha. Classic.

For sure im gonna have to come back when the next sick DJ rolls through cuz the parties here are way better than SF. However i think last night may have been better than most nights? Maybe it was just special or something?

PS my friends tried to go to Vanguard... Waited in line for 20 minutes, learned it was 60 bucks to get in and then bounced... too funny. THATS the LA i know... not last night@!%$@

Was i supposed to subscribe to the comments? subscribe to the newsletter? leave a comment? This set is a must!

Awesome set.. Loved every minute of it...

Thank you very much Armin Van Buuren for taking the WASHING MACHINES to Vanguard, I think that made a huge difference!!

Who are you refering to Mr. Dave T, ex SF resident, new LA resident?

Never partied in SF so I didn't know. General rule in LA, if you can try to keep your eyes away from looking at people's faces on the dancefloor, you are in for an epic night!

I'll let you know when I get my hands on the recorded set.

Aren't you referring to INSOMNIA by Faithless that came out in 1995?

Here's a live performance...
