I have faith that Blizzard will address the issue if it becomes a big enough issue to address. They've always been really good at responding to customer feedback.
If there's a big enough rumble from the competitive crowd, I have confidence that LAN will be re-implemented. I know nothing about computers except how to turn them on and use them, but adding LAN support couldn't be THAT hard, could it?
If it's to avoid piracy, then simply having to login to Battlenet THEN select the LAN option could be viable, no? |

No, because that defeats the entire purpose... the ability to play without an available internet connection.
And yes, this happens. |

| i admire your optimism, but i suspect you're going to be disappointed, spam. i hope im wrong, but if SC2 doesnt ship with LAN support, i dont think you'll ever see it some time in the future, other than things like hamachi perhaps. |

On July 28, MarketWatch reported that StarCraft II's release date may be postponed to 2010. While Blizzard has not confirmed any delays, video game analyst Jess Lubert stated, "StarCraft 2 may be pushed out of this year, due to development delays. The beta testing for 'StarCraft' hasn't started yet. If it starts in August and takes 5-6 months, then launching the game this year is next to impossible."
In response to the possible delay of the release of StarCraft II, Jeff Haynes of IGN.com contacted Blizzard. A spokesperson for Blizzard informed Haynes, "We're still targeting the end of the year for the launch of StarCraft II and we're also still targeting this summer for the start of the beta, so none of that's changed on this end." and that, "We're still looking to ship the game by the end of the year. If that changes, we'll let you guys know, but that's how things are looking right now." |

The game is now slated for a release "in the first half of 2010," with the team at Blizzard using the additional time to "continue to polish and refine StarCraft II," as well as "work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination."

| I'm suspecting that the whole no lan thing might have something to do with blizzard trying to drown out KESPA (the korean e-sports association, which is currently dominating the competitive sc scene and televised matches) and take control of the competitive scene for themselves. They've been making a bunch of moves along those lines - donating large ammounts of prize money to korean tournaments just to give their flashy logo some more air time and such. |

There should be a huge uproar about this but who are we kidding. Blizzard are thinknig about charging for battle.net these days. All there looking for is profit and If they can get the Koreans to start paying, that's a fair bit of profit. But eventualy Blizzard will introduce it but I believe we're going to have to wait a fair bit.
This is going to be a looooong haul. |
