Lost Trance Labels

Inspired by the thread “Producers and Dj’s that have abandoned dance music” I thought it would be interesting to have a look at some of the labels that have regrettably ceased trading or simply disappeared.

Additive Records - Tracks from Lange, Aurora, Tauncher, Ayla and the like.
Would love some info on what happened to it as was owned by emi. Was it just abandoned?

ATCR – Now this is a real loss. Not massive but fairly large back cat. Releases by Goldenscan, Free Radical, Insigma, Rapid Eye, Pulser and my personal fav Geoff Lawz Progect.

Not sure of the official status of this label and I hope we will one day be treated to some fresh releases.

CODE BLUE – Another big label in the uk – Releases from Gouryella, Des Mitchell, Major League & oceanlab.

INFERNO – Big uk trance & cheese label.

LONGPORT – Not round for long but releases from Green Court, Dj Shog ect. Wouldn’t surprise me if this was / is part of another label.

NEO RECORDS LTD – Huge label for a while here in England. Had it’s fair share of cheese but some quality tracks through out 99 like pulp victim, Marc Auurel, Darude, Thrillseekers, Frank T.R.A.X.X, Starfighter, Specture.

PLATIPUS RECORDS – Needs absolutely no introduction. Are they still releasing new tracks?

POSITIVA RECORDS – Ok so it’s still going but it’s so far removed from the label it was in the late 90s and early 2000s for trance. Did release a lot of crap.

SERIOUS RECORDS – Was set up by brother of Judge Jules and closed early 2000s

XTRAGANZA RECORDS – Another quality UK trance label. Wonder what happend to it?

HOOJ CHOONS – Closed for a while but has made a come back.

There are plenty more that I will list later. Add what you can and it would be interesting to know why so many fairly large labels all went down about the same time in the early 2000s

Platipus is still around, I believe. Or been resurrected at least.

I was always saddened to see Music Research go by the wayside, but I guess Talla 2XLC just didn't have the time to devote to it any longer.

Yes, I hope so.

I've seen two Orkidea remixes of Platipus' records with "Platipus" not "CDR" signed to them lately. It looks like they're not just some exclusive mixes for the show, but going to be released. He played them in his "Scandinavia 002" mix for afterhours.fm.

Aah, and ATCR looks like to be in the game again as my friend spoke to Tim Stark about it a few weeks ago. "Circa-Forever 2008" was released on it recently.

Spirit zone
Tip records... and The infinity project in general really.

He resurrected Tetsuo on his own earlier this year. This is ok, but the rest of the new releases so far are, unfortunately, very generic epic trance, just like his sets.

Additive.

MFS

MFS ("Masterminded For Success") was a small but fine German electronic dance music label throughout the nineties and featured some of the very first records in the genre that was soon to become the global trance phenomenon. An early home of trance superstar Paul van Dyk the label is now largely defunct since the fallout between Paul and label founder Mark Reeder. Originally supported and financed by Deutsche Schallplatten Berlin.
