TA Photographers - A Question

Do any of you guys have any experience using a Neutral Density filter? My GF bought one off ebay a few days ago, and it should arrive pretty soon, but it's not something I know much about at all.

It's an ND-8 filter, if that helps at all.

:)

Yeah, I've seen a lot of his pics here on TA. He mostly does club photography though, right?

What exactly do you want to know about it?
Wikipedia has a pretty straight forward explanation.

J:\Digital is another talented TA photographer that you could possibly ask.

BTW: From my basic understanding, these types of filters are used to be able to reduce the exposure without changing the aperture or shutter speed.

Yeah, I've done a little bit of reading about them, but I was more curious as to what others had specifically used them for? I know they're used to allow long exposures/slow shutter speeds in brightly lit situations, but what would these situations be? Mostly landscape style shots, I suppose?

never saw the need to buy a filter, I don't have an opinion.

btw. what is your long range lens ? I'm thinking of buying a 300mm I don't know if it will be enough

Stren, do you use Canon or Nikon? I don't know much about Nikon gear.

I mostly use a Canon 300mm L f/4 with IS. I have a Canon 400mm L f/5.6 as well (no IS), but I much much much prefer the 300mm, though I only really shoot handheld.

What sort of tele shots are you looking to take?
