Pre-ordered through steam and played the demo level about a dozen times. All I can say is WOW, this is PURE FUN! Most I've had since playing TF2 the first few times. If you have a PC that can play this game, GET IT NOW! The gameplay videos don't do this game any justice, it MUST be played. I wasn't too hyped watching the vids, but the action and suspense in-game is insane.
Oh, and for those that don't already know, the game is made by Valve - Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, etc.
Here's a review of the demo from Jodan77 on the GS forums:
"Final Impressions
17.5 Hours of Playtime
Left 4 Dead doesn't look that interesting when you watch the videos. Gamers probably notice the Graphics aren't the best, and all it looks like you do is shoot zombies. But without ever playing the game, you just don't get how it feels to play. When you start a game, you and your teammates work like a well oiled machine, using tactics to take down the common horde. However, this game truly has some outstanding AI; and it will crush you. No, the common horde is not very smart, but the system that spawns the zombies according to how well the survivors are playing is.
I know people have said their game is never the same twice, but in Left 4 Dead's Case it is true. While I was in spectator mode, I floated ahead of the human players to see the action behind the scenes. As the humans drew closer to the arena I was observing, I saw the game start to spawn the common horde and a boss zombie. Wait a second. That Boss Zombie just disappeared! Why? As it turns out, one of the human players had just lost all his health and hit the ground, so apparently the director believed that the boss zombie was not needed to challenge the three remaining humans. The AI director is constantly setting up the battles you encounter.
I mentioned the common horde was pretty dumb, well that is true. However, the AI bosses on the other hand are brutal. On the harder difficulties you will often have to facemultiple bosses at once who work together to kill your team. These are often the funnest moments in the game, as the players have to react to save their skins. One Boss, The Smoker, pulls a survivor away from the group, as another boss, The Boomer, vomits on him. Now that player is covered in green goo, which attracts all the infected towards him, and the Smoker is now beating on him.
Hilarity ensues as Someone shoots the Boomer, who explodes into a gory mess covering another survivor in vomit. The player who is being strangled dies from the double team as the last survivor shoots the Smoker, who dies with a puff of black smoke that impairs your vision. As he tries to go help the other player who is being ripepd apart from the vomit attracted horde, a hunter pounces on the him, nailing him to the ground, and the game ends.
And Know What? This is the first time I think that a game over never infuriates me, because as we all respawn at the checkpoint, we have no idea how the map is going to play out this time. Will the tier 2 weapons spawn close to the subway this time? Or will a Tank be outside waiting to pound on us until we die? Either way, it's going to be a blast to find out.
I've probably had more fun with just the demo than any title released this year. And knowing that there are 18 More maps, the versus mode where you play as the bosses, and future Valve Support? I'm looking forward to spending all my free gaming time playing this suspenseful multiplayer masterpiece." |

| There's no way my PC is capable of running this, so I'm hoping for a 360 demo on Live to check it out. |

Yeah...on expert difficulty the A.I. Will crush you. It gets a bit ridiculous at times, throwing bosses at you one after the other or at inappropriate times (like everyone is low on health and ammo, and all of a sudden it decides to throw a tank at you).
Either way, I've never had so much fun getting owned by the AI. Most any other game I'd get pissed and quit, but this just keeps you comin back. Not to mention the nonstop hilarious moments playing with friends. |

| Just played the demo and I totally agree! WOW! Haven't had this much fun playing a PC game in a long time. Not only is it incredibly well done and fun to play, but the graphic engine is beautiful and runs amazingly fluid with everything maxed out including AA at 1920x1200. This is how games should run and look on a decent system. Valve has done an amazing job. I look forward to the full release. |
