Lucasarts and Bioware has officially revealed there new Star Wars MMO called Star Wars: The Old Republic, Its set in the KOTOR era.
The game itself will have two factions, The Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.

i've been waiting for the official word for a while now. looks pretty interesting but i would much rather be playing a new single player rpg. even though i'm disappointed that nothing really specific has been said regarding gameplay, a few things in the faq stand out to me:
Will I be able to travel to other worlds?
Yes, you will be able to travel to many of the planets featured in the Star Wars movies and in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. There will also be a number of new planets and star systems to explore.
so new places to go, cool. hopefully you can do stuff like smuggling and missions/quests while travelling.
Will I see any characters from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?
Given that it is approximately 300 years since the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, many of the characters have passed away. However, their legacy does live on as many of their descendants will be part of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Some droids can last a long time as well.

the game is supposed to be a lot more focused on storytelling and choices along the way. you can get companions to join you along the way, or they may turn against you depending on what you do. you choose the good guys or bad guys when you start, but choices you make can change your path during the game. since i have no mmo experience other than the short trial for world of warcraft, i don't know if any mmo's have had these things as focal points. seems like a new direction though.
the story is set 300 years after kotor1. i guess this means there is enough of a gap to do another single player game at some point later on, as revan and the exile 'are never heard from again' at the moment. revan went to the unknown regions to find a dark threat, the exile went as well a few years later, neither were heard from again but instead we get some sith emperor turning up and laying waste to the galaxy, taking over coruscant before pissing off to do his own thing and leaving a bunch of sith lords to run things. we don't know who any of them are yet.
i never played star wars galaxies but i get the impression that it had a strong focus on roleplaying, living a life in the star wars universe and stuff like that before they changed everything. i don't think this game is going to be like that. but it doesn't look like it is trying to be another WoW as well.
anyway i'm pretty interested in what it will be like, i will probably get this and have a go. still no word on races and classes yet i think so we have to wait and see if you can start as a jedi, which i think all the old SWG players are hoping won't happen ;) |

| I'm still hoping that one day we will see a proper KOTOR3, but even so, im not touching thisd game, i dont like mmorpg's and even if its star wars it does nothing for me. |
