ARIAs

Trance Nutter
yeah I know no one gives a , I was round at a friends place and after me and her boyfriend watched the grand prix she put it on the ARIAs while we ate tea.

There is a point to this.

I was majorly confused by one segment.

The Presets described themselves as underground. And in a seperate sentence claimed they made techno.

:haha:

I read some article in the paper today about the ARIAs and how dance music is on the up etcetera.

Presets et al are ing glorified rock music!

Goddamn I hate mainstream media. They are so unbelievably clueless about, well, mostly everything, and the general public swallows down their crap more enthusiastically than Jenna Jameson does a load of man sauce, with the net result being a population of ignorant idiots. Not that I'm terribly enlightened, but I at least have the common sense to think for myself.

Also, I want to punch the host of Thank God You're Here right in the face. You know the guy I'm talking about. The semi-balding, unfunny, sycophantic guy who always wears the suit and exudes about as much charisma as an Indian telemarketer. I hate him. I hope he falls down a flight of stairs.

No wonder so many "fans" are clueless if the artists are completely wrong to start with.

I would classify them as dance music.

Alot of there tracks are 4 to the floor beats.
They are just a re-invented New Order, Bronski Beat, Depache Mode, and other 80/90's bands with synthesisers.

I dont really care much for genres but I have not heard a presets track with your typical lead and bass guitar so wouldnt really call them rock.

And as much as everyone cool hates them, i thought apocolypto was a really solid album.

Really love the more mellow stuff on the album and the more popular stuff they make is good to dance too.

And they were sort of underground before Are you the One and Down Down Down. They are in there late 30's and being doing this for a while so there was a long time of making music and noone knowing who the hell they were.

The first time I saw the Presets, i don't even think they had thier first album yet.

It was a gig with a heap of bands, all playing punk and noise-rock. The presets closed the night, and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to in my life. Awesome crowd, awesome feeling, it basically turned into a rave for scenesters.

That is how I remember the Presets, they WERE underground, they started off making a type of TECHNO, and there was nothing rock and roll about them musically, except they had a garage-type attitude and style behind thier production.

Anyway, they've since blown-out and become huge, I saw them at the start of the year and walked away before they finished. They dont have the same energy anymore, the rawness has diminished and its all polished-up crap, probably fit well into a trance set? ;)

I didn't rate the Presents at all from their first album, but Apocolypto is a masterpiece imo. The fact that such an inherantly dark selection of music was judged album of the year is pretty huge. They're by no means underground in the sense that we may all use the term, but there are lots of 'underground' tones to this album, which is definitely what resonated with me personally. Their music definitely references techno, and trance for that matter. Good on them, will be interesting to see what they follow this up with - now that's a challenge.
