hey let's not forget that she tried to ban books from a public library and she thinks abortion is unacceptable even in cases of rape and incest victims. she knew that having another kid at her age has a high risk of birth defects and did it anyway. she knew he would be born retarded in the first trimester and carried him to term anyway - what a maverick! she has five kids, which is socially and environmentally neglectful of the population problem. on top of that, she's a total cvnt (based on her convention speech), speaks to america like we're 6 year olds, and her voice makes me want to stab orphans. up until last year she's never had a passport, and she has never traveled outside of the united states in her life. her political success has been built upon divisive issues like gun control and abortion that play no part in local gov. she even ousted the mayor of a town of 6000 by painting him as a baby killer. she wishes to make this election about guns and abortion rather than our economic and foreign policy turmoil. based on her cspan interviews from jan-feb of this year, her greatest political ambition is to make america's oil addiction an alaskan strength rather than a thing of the past. imagine all the time and power she would have as a vp - with no official responsibilities - to carry out all her ideological goals. fastrack to the second coming!

Imagine this -- John McCain is already 72. If he gets elected and croaks in office, think of how screwed we'd be then...

now think about this: 9 out of 44 presidents have been replaced by their vps while in office. those are worse odds than a game of russian roulette.

I have to post this rant I found on another board re: this subject..
It's so ed, but its almost the way things could be headed.
So well written, I dont have to change a WORD.
quote:
it. mccain and palin will win this. There is no amount of cut-and-dry scandals that could be found (or conjured) that will convince voters to think that perhaps McCain is a bad choice for president, and his choice for Vice President, a worse one. Most conservatives don't see this as a John McCain presidency, they see it as a Sarah Palin administration. They even state it as 'Sarah-and-John'. At this point Palin could come forward with information that she had an abortion and most of American would say that this doesn't even matter because she's a Christian. The anti-intellectual snobbery is not a minute infection anymore; it has become cancerous in this country.
The Republicans for years have embraced this anti-intellectualism in thier campaigns. Since Spiro Agnew's 'nattering nabobs of negativism' attacks on his oponents, up through the present cult-of-personality mentality of a "W" and Palin who in thier own right attack not just intellectual liberalism, but worse, intellectual conservatism, the GOP has taken a stupid pill, and are wallowing in thier bliss. At least the Left pays lip service to the notion that the best course of action is always using one's mind. They manage to get the means right, but the end always wrong. Republicans have both means and end wrong. And this country has paid dearly for it.
The push for teaching creationism in schools, or intelligent design (regardless of whether evolution is taught), elevating clumps of cells to the level of actual thinking beings, the expanse of faith-based initiatives and excluding religious (read: christian) organizations from taxation, and much, much more....is indicative of Republicans abstaining from doing any thinking whatsoever. The Right has militantly embraced faith, militantly because faith and force are corollaries. Every period of mysiticism in the history of mankind was one of statism, dictatorship, and tyranny. The short-term effect of faith is prevalent: faith short-circuits the mind, the effect of which has generated tens of millions of persons who willingly suck up whatever they read and watch in the newspapers and on television. Thus, it is no great suprise that even some of the more intelligent political thinkers of this era devolve down to such low levels of thought formation. Case in point: http://buchanan.org/blog/2008/09/pj...-and-one-of-us/
But there are other consequences of this. For example, conservatives have always been highly skeptical of federal powers and political motives. Now, there is very little skepticism of our government by conservatives, and those who venture to do so are met with great attacks from anti-intellectual base of Republicans. How dare you question George Bush's resolve. How dare you question Sarah Palin's legitimacy. And those attacks, might I add, are in themselves devoid of coherent thought.
I think this accurately describes the background to this 'unsettling' feeling some of you have about the state of our country and perhaps, our civilization. It is sitting at mediocrity and slowly drifting toward dismal failure. And, they gleefully cheer, "more average please!" to those who are at the helm. Yet, one cannot so quickly blame the politicians before addressing those who have given them a helping hand into power. The low-digit approval ratings of our elected officials is a testament to this. The stewards of freedom and liberty that we elect, have, over time, failed to keep house of those very principles and values we as individuals hold true. If it is mysticism, celebritism, and instinct which guides your hand to the level on the voting machine, then you've earned this feeling.
I will try not to address any more Palin threads or be tempted to do so. The debate is as pointless as it is fruitless. Those who have drawn the line in the sand do so believing no level of incompetence or anti-intellectualism will change thier minds; not because of her total, utter, and complete lack of qualifications, but because they merely point to the other team and say, "look!".

One of the first thing I thought when I saw her. There really is no question that Palin's nomination will be a huge fodder for comedians everywhere. :D

While I generally agree, if he gets the presidency he will be the oldest to do so (Reagan is the oldest - 69 when he took office [source]). I'm making the assumption here that age is a fairly important factor in his likelihood of dying as president. However, I'm sure the president's excellent team of doctors will most likely keep him fine and dandy.
Imagine if he got a second term - he'd be 80 by the time he finishes!

it's much more comforting to assume that someone has all the answers for you and that everything will be just peachy if you just believe every word they say, simple as that. faith is after all the practice of nonthinking. 'you have a soul that is immortal! death isn't the end; it's the beginning!' - how encouraging is that to the fearfully ignorant and those whose lives suck and lack substance? religious devotion is measured by how willingly you bow to the dogma of authority without question. these people must congregate weekly to reinforce such ludicrous ideas to themselves and their peers since everything they are told flies in the face of reality. the more ridiculously devout the behavior, the more you are praised and reassured. just make sure you put money in the tray on your way out!
i don't think people who are religious or believe in god should be to be in these postions of power. "iraq war is gods will" yikes !! :nervous:

aah it reminds of a quote of Buddha:
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.
