Can't say that I agree with what Horn did in this instance. He was told by 911 to hold fire and he was protecting domain that was actually outside of his boundaries.
But, there is a flipside to this. Even if he is indicted, this will send, once again, a clear message to criminals in Texas. We are armed and we will shoot. I know that is the extreme Republican wild west school of thought. But just like the man said in the CNN interview, "As a native Texan, I know how folks in my state feel about criminals: Hit 'em hard, then hit 'em again. The state leads the nation in executions, and Texas juries don't play when it comes to crime.'
When people start getting that message that they aren't safe when they commit a crime (that means having to worry about police AND citizens that are willing to protect), you will actually have those potential criminals that will stop and think before acting out.
I think Horn should be eligible for some type of punishment because he was instructed to not fire, though. |

Thanks Jake.
More food for thought:
I read the article, but it's not telling the whole story. That's to be expected of the media.
Mr. Horn is protected under the "castle-doctrine". The grand jury did their duty and decided to "no-bill" him.
"A plain clothes police detective responding to the 911 call had arrived at the scene before the shooting and witnessed the escalation and shootings, while remaining in his car.[3] His report on the incident indicated that the men who were killed "received gunfire from the rear".[1] Police Capt. A.H. Corbett stated the two men ignored Mr. Horn's order to freeze and one of the suspects ran towards Joe Horn before he angled away from him toward the street when he was shot in the back. Pasadena police confirmed that the two men were shot after they ventured into his front yard. The detective did not arrest Horn."

I don't agree either.

That would be appropriate but I think the "castle-doctrine" also protects against civil-lawsuits. |
