This is me and MoN-SooN's second collab mix together and I'm sure it wont be the last. MoN-SooN is a great DJ and we have a lot in common as DJs. On this mix we sorta decided to not have a concrete predetermined theme and kind of go with the flow. I had a vague idea of using "chunky" tracks which was a word we used a lot. But overall we ended up with something quite pleasing, with great flow and sort of contrasting elements. Hence the Crosswinds title. The mix starts off with an energetic track, "Uncle Fly" to get things moving and eases into a very trancey mode with "Reasons To Forgive" and "Awake". "Emonimal" breaks the mix down into almost minimal levels and then "Apocalypse" capitalizes on that with an mono melodic feel. The Lange mix of "Off the World" is a superb track and brings also brings a little of that "chunky" feel we wanted. "Push Over" is another great track and builds on that vibe. "All the Way" by Ronski Speed continues the chunky beat but breaks into a very trancey vibe with those great vocals. After which is the awesome pick by MoN-SooN, Chad Cisneros Remix of "On This Day" and then Signum Dub of "Road Test". At this point I must come up with something to match MoN-SooN's great last two tracks to bring this mix home and I think I did ok with the Elevation Remix of "Phoria" (love the driving feel from the vocals) and then with the very epic strings of "Not the End", which has a nice additional message that this is 'not the end' between me and MoN-SooN. Hope you have as much fun listening as we did creating!

Hi Lads,
Not much to add after Metatron's description. It was great and enjoyable experience to go with a flow, not for a theme. This results in a pretty surprising changes, especially in the beginning. It's like an embryo - you don't know if it will be boy or girl, pale or tanned, etc. As it grows up, you feel it is chunky and breezy. It's Crosswinds.

personally I would love it if we got some criticism on this one. It's not a perfect mix IMO and if anyone has some helpful thoughts on the mix and our process that would be great.

I thought it was a damned fine mix from start to finish. I can't personally find any negative/constructive criticism to offer. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;) |
