NEW TRACK
:D
Its another step for me to finally get close to creating trance.
Made with Reason 4.0, I utilized everything I knew how to work, and I used everything I could think of (Combinator, Delay, Reverb, Unison, Phaser, Thor [and alot of it :D], Subtractor, RPG8, basically everything)
So tell me what you think
Its about 4 minutes, 30 seconds.
You can tell the start of the breakdown and end of the buildup, by like..hearing a windy-noise.
Anyways, its my fifth track, I asked my friend who is a DJ and he said he cant label the type of trance it is, but he said its definitly trance.
Sorry for the size of it, before you download, if any of the can tell me how to reduce the size of it without changing the sound quality, that would be amazing, because its pushing 45 megabytes.
Anyways, its uploading now, so if you know how to compress it or whatever, give me a heads up so I can give it to you guys. |

Thats the site, so if any of you would be kind enough to give criticism to my rather large track file...that would be AMAZING.
Cheers. |

Hello mate, although I'm very new to this forum, I think you'd get more replies if you uploaded it as an MP3. WAV's are huge and people might not have the time or bandwidth to download :)
I'm downloading it now, but I have to go out so I'll tell you what I think later :D |

Im gonna grab a bite to eat, and I will then head off to class.
See ya in a little bit. |

Ok mate just had a listen.
First things first, the track is incredibly quiet. I had to turn my amp on full whack to actually hear it properly.
You have some nice melodic ideas, some that could make a really kicking tune but this is let down slightly by the monotonous drums. What are you using to lay down your beats?
Find some decent drum hits or loops and slow down one of your favourite tracks and listen to how the drums are formed, what hits they're using and how it fits together.
You obviously have musical ability so when you get the technical side of things sorted we should hear some nice tunes :) |

Yeah, at the end of this post Im going to resubmit my newly mixed track (mixed as in, mixed with the master volume and EQ).
Thanks man. I guess knowing about music sorta helps you...make it have more starting potential than a starter. I make my drum beats with Redrum, I was told that the basic drum beat has a snare, a basedrum, a clap, and possibly hihats. So I heard its like, pardon my crappy diagram, but
BD S BD|C S BD S BD|C
Meaning, Basedrum Snare Basdrum and clap at the same time, then repeat.
Monotonous, meaning like, bland, not original, etc? If so, thats the case I am looking for. I want to make a cliche trance track to figure out what the backbone and structure is.
How do I mute out everything but the drums, and slow it down? Is there a program that does it for me? Or do I just have to train my ears.
Anyways, thanks for the compliments, Im still a beginner when it comes to Reason 4.0, so hopefully you guys have heard that, and see that in my post.
Anyways, this one here is the final one until further notice (meaning someone gives me advice or another form of criticism)
So please, tell me your thoughts when listening to it.

Hey there,
You asked, because you said you where a noob, not to get whipped wright away. So I'll wait a little bit with that ;)
You arrangement is not that bad, as mentioned before, you should really learn the technical aspects of producing. I can't hear any kind of kick at all.
Second, the sounds are a bit outdated. But for a beginner, I think you will get to understand how to do all this.
If I can give you a tip, seek the kind of style you like to create (that has already been released) and try to recreate that. In that way you will learn a lot by just recreating a song.
Also, find a decent drum sample set, I would really recommend the Vengeance Series.
Good luck and fun producing!! |

Lol thanks :D
Ok, so I will obviously redo the levels in general on the final edition of the song. Thats what I KNOW I need and want to take care of.
Outdated sounds are a start, I think your trying to say that. I dont know how to sorta..make new sounds if thats what your trying to say. I know how to adjut the knobs to get them to what I want that synth to sound like, if that helps.
So what would a good, easy song to break down be for trance?
Do you think Spiral (mixed by) - Armin Van Buuren would be a good song to break down and study?
And where would I get that drum sample kit?
I dont have any money, so if its a refill that has to be paid, that sucks for me XD |

Nowadays there are a lot of quality trance tracks that you can study. Just pick one you like ;)
About the outdated sounds, maybe it would be interesting to get into sound synthesis, in that way you can learn how to create your own sound. If I am not wrong, there should be a tutorial on subtractive synthesis somewhere on TA.
Most of the (quality) drumsounds are to be payed for. But with if you search good, you might get some for free ;)... |

So anything that I truly like will work fine.
Is there a program that I can use to slow down a song, possibly mute out melodies and vocals so I can hear drums, or other way around.
Subtractive synthesis, later tonight Ill look into it. Its 8:11 right now, and currently at school XD. Does it have anything to do with Subtractor patches in Reason? :p
Ahha I found a cool little refill called Nightclub Leads...;) I used two of them in that track. They were the starting melody and the melody in the breakdown (that sounded like a super-synth, not a trance synth) XD. |
