This is why the 360 will end up becoming the lesser console to the PS3. Whereas Sony-made PS3 games will always stay there, 360 games will eventually head to the PC. Almost always. Halo 3 will eventually, guaranteed.
I take credit for turning a PC gaming thread into a console debate one. BAM! |

Mass Effect 2 is probably coming to PS3. The company that made Mass Effect got sold to EA. EA = multiplat whores.
Not my type of game though, JRPG's FTW. |

yeah, there will probably be more exclusive titles on the PS3, but that's never been much of a drawcard for me. see, what's actually happened is a lot of PC developers are getting killed by piracy and have been branching out into consoles, and (for whatever reason) companies like valve and bioware and 2K are favouring the 360 over PS3. probably due to similarities of one kind or another, i mean it is microsoft after all.
to be perfectly honest, i think "exclusivity" and the manner in which microsoft and sony use them against each other pisses me off. writing good, quality games is really hard work and if any game warrants going to all systems (spec permitting) then it should be done.
not everyone has enough money to own a wii, ps3, 360 & PC to take advantage of every single available title.
and while im here, id like to remind everyone to check out the 360 version of supreme commander when it gets released in june. if they've managed to do a stellar job with the controls, you strategy guys owe it to yourself to have a play. |

I see your point. Exclusivity does in fact segregate the market in a way in which certain people who don't own particular console will not get the chance to play a certain game.
But what about the person who DOES own all 3 of the consoles? It's those kind of people that WANT exclusive content because they need justification as to why they bought a certain console. If every game was available on every console, it would practically kill the competitive aspect of the gaming industry. Whereas exclusives might piss off the 360 owners since *Game A is only headed to the PS3, this will entice those PS3 owners who also own 360's, but have been waiting for something to play on their Sony console and their Sony console ONLY.
It seems the PC gaming industry is becoming harder to market due to, whataya know, piracy. I believe Crytek recently announced that they would be abandoning serving the PC community exclusively due to it, (article is http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/c...y-cites-piracy/)
Which is too bad, because the PC platform is a great place to exclusively make a game, because it is more powerful than the consoles. The problem is, the kind of PC gamers who have rigs powerful enough to play these advanced games are ALSO the kind of people that know how to bootleg them as well. The market these companies are targeting is the same market that fuels the torrent sites 100%. Its a terrible coincidence, but the internet has brought all sorts of evils and downfalls to the creative minds of game developers. |

| I really think PC gaming is coming to an end soon. Sure, you can build a PC that is way more powerful than the current consoles but it'll cost a lot of money. As posted above, the people who will drop this kind of money on a system probably won't legally purchase the game. The people who do purchase the games get ed over by retarded DRM measures that do nothing but ENCOURAGE piracy. It's a catch 22. |

Although its hard to argue your point, you cant deny the power of games like World of Warcraft. I think the saving grace of the PC gaming industry will be online games. They are near-impossible to pirate, and generate constant revenue thanks to monthly fees.
The next challenge is to develop an MMORPG that comes even close to as popular as WOW. Without sufficient initial sales, the developer will merely lose all of their money in trying to finance the project.
All in all, PC developers are taking bigger risks every passing year. |
