Ok so back to the sets i go. Sorry about the delay. First one I have gotten a chance to check out after getting access to a new player is Peteones so here we go.
Personally I found it to be a pretty decent mix. The impression that I got was that there was a decent amount of thought put into it but sometimes the execution was a little off. With that I mean if the mix is there was a lot of risk taking, layering and such but if it’s going to be spun live, especially with this type of music, then some eq’ing is needed. In essence it seemed like almost every time there was a mix both tracks still had full bass which made the mixes seem a bit muddy and distorted. In order to make the mix flow a bit more and sound better to the ear it would have really helped to have some nice blending and Bass drops, maybe some filters to keep the interest up. With techno/minimal you kind of have to create the excitement by working the tracks because they can get so repetitive. Anticipation is everything as well and you kind of have to create it and not rely just on the tracks to do it for you.
I loved the fact that you looped and I could hear layers being brought in and out. That is what I fricken’ loved about the mix. You look a lot of chances, mixed through breakdowns and took the risk of them still being on after it, which most of the time it was. I understand you did some edits on it which I could tell but some of the tracks still seemed to drag on a little bit. I would have liked to see many two or three more tracks squeezed in there.
I really enjoyed the end of the mix the most I think. I would play it again and did enjoy it, just wanted to give some constructive criticism. Nice one brotha.
I made some notes while on the train that I can barely read but I will include them below, if some of they don’t make sense then blame my 4th grade English teacher.
~Really liked the simple mix at around 38:00, didn’t seem to max out like the others and worked great. Loved that track as well.
~Around 20:50 I believe you used a loop over the breakdown and it was pretty sick but needed some Eq’ing to make it shine.
~Around 28:50 – I enjoyed the way you brought the vocals back in, nice one.
~Around 13:00 – Mix personally didn’t flow very and seemed muddy.
~Around 31:38? I think you were mixing three samples at the same time, “A” for risk taking and it flowed pretty well.
I have more written down but that is all I can decipher. Hope that gives a little incite.
~ ps. i listened to this on ear buds so my view on some things might be off a bit. |
