Godskitchen in May presents one of the most seminal and well known names in electronic music.... The legendary PAUL OAKENFOLD who needs no introduction.... How many producers can state that they have remixed the likes of Madonna, The Rolling Stones, U2, Michael Jackson and Radiohead?! Paul is a true A List DJ, one of the most established figures in the scene who has has performed in hundreds of places around the world including unique locations such as the Great Wall in China, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Wembley Stadium... and on May 24th he will be touching down at
Air in Birmingham!
In the Nitrogen Room we welcome back Air favourites THE TROPHY TWINS

With the exception of what will probably be a 2 hour set from the dinosour of trance music, you have house in all 3 rooms. Whats more, they are the same names who always play at Air. What an absolutly appauling lack of effort.
Last month you had Armin and Blake Jarell in the main room. Again, the same names you had exactly 4 months earlier. Why not bother trying to give us something new and exciting?
Please explain to me why Godskitchen:
1. Got rid of John O'Bir, who is a highly acclaimed DJ in the world of trance, and who everybody who goes to Gods misses.
2. Have only booked paul van dyk once since 2004 (at a night I couldnt attend because the 'open air' fiasco ensured many people were turned away), dispite the fact that he has been tho worlds number one DJ and would definatly pull a big crowd.
3. Have never tryed techno or breaks in the second room, instead playing the same 3 house DJs every month, even though the room has completely lost its atmosphere in the past few years.
4. Havn't updated the soundsystem, even though it sounds old and tyred.
In my opinion Godskitchen have completely lost their way and will probably go bust in a couple of years if they dont sort it out. Its a real shame - Ive been going there regularly for around three years, and they have completely stopped putting in any effort. They dont seem to give a sh!t about clubbers having a great night - the justification for the line up above is surely that they know they will fill the club bacause paul oakenfold is a big name. Not because people will thourghly enjoy themselves untill 6 am and be excited enought to definatly come back for more |

Fair play this is a fairly well thought out request so I will grace it with a response
1- I cant answer this as I dont know the answer but he is still very much a part of GK's plans
2- I'm pretty sure Open Air was last year or the year before and also he was booked for Global last year and played a bloody good set IMO.
3- Techno has been played in room 2 on many occasions, in fact Fergie used to host the room.
4- You are the only person I have ever say anything bad about the sound system in Air (except for when there were teething problems when we first changed from Code to Air)
5- I know there wasnt a 5th question but this is a general response. If you check out he June line up I feel you will be pleasantly surprised, also keep your eyes peeled for line ups going forward. I can assure you that there is thought going into them and I am sure you will be as excited as I am when you see them |

Although I agree with you Jon to an extent about Gods not giving us enough "new" line ups, and pushing up and coming dj's/ producers forward lets not forget that Gods is only on once a month now (down to Gods obviously) and they have to make sure that they fill the venue as much as possible....
also, even though the line ups may be similar year on year there is always great demand for those nites. |

Wow - thankyou very much for the reply - its much appreciated! Ok i will eat my words re: the future gods night coming up - yea that is a nice surprise :-)
However, I will not accept the claim that the Nitrogen room is remotly fresh. These are the last 5 of the last 7 lineups:

They are all very similar arent they! The nitrogen room has potential to pull in its own crowd, but what serious house fanatic is gunna want to see the same DJs every month? And for those that do, how many of them are going to be excited? It doesn't matter how good they are, they can't do the business every month to the standard that you want.
Yea PVD did play at Global, and what a terrific set that was, but I think you are missing my point. Global Gathering is like your big cash cow - its a guarenteed earner, and people will enjoy it anyway because it's novel. The vast majority of people that go will not be regular clubbers and are unlikely to ever go to Air.
You can't forget though, that the nights you put on at Air are the essence of what Gods is about. Its supposed to be about amazing clubbing. You need the likes of PVD to play there and give the serious clubbers - the people that keep the scene afloat - the best nights that you can.
For the comment about Air going monthly, I think that this should mean less recycled line-ups. Surely that would make sense. You are right that there is some demand for the same DJ's again and again but I think they are trying to impress the wrong audience. If you satisfy the serious, dedicated clubbers then the scene will grow, and people will keep coming back for more. I think Gods should really focus on the long term. And i know that booking armin will sell a night out, but on such occasions some other good up and coming trance DJs should be on the line up too. Just to give thenm a peak time set, and some exposure. As I said, fiar play for putting on a future gids night
And finally, for the soundsystem - yea your right its not that bad. Its not that good either mind - not compared with places like 'amnesia' in ibiza; 'fabric' in london and the old crasher one (before it burned down). Seeing as its the most important thing really, I dont understand why they dont invest a bit and get a rolls royce system :)

Fair comments, I think that the problem is that Paul Thomas, Funkagenda, Neil Navarra, Duncan Murray and Micky Slim are all residents so it's hard to fit them all in as well get new people in. I know what you are saying though and it has been noted by a few people dont worry
As for the line ups in the main rim, like I say, just keep your eyes out for future line ups, i'm sure you wont be disappointed :) |
