Unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it. MLC sucks, even the promoters admit it, but its reliable and affordable. If you check out most events at MLC, they barely even fill the place :(. Think about it. Paying for the DJ's flight, hotel room, performance, lights, sound, tech guy, facilities, security, on the scene RCMP. All these factors come in to play. Hell most of their money comes from selling water. One thing I love about twisted is that they make most of the venue. Their stage setup is usually brilliant and actually feels like we are getting our money's worth. Sound is usually pretty slick, sometimes there are issues. :conf:
The line up they bring is also amazing because they bring just want the crowd needs. Little bit of Trance, little bit of prog, end it off with hard dance and a bit of psy. There is thought and effort put into these event's. I love the theme's =D. Tickets starting at 45 is reasonable to me because of the lack of attendees. You have to look at this from a business point of view. They make enough money to line up the next show, but of course a little bit on the side, otherwise what would be the point of being in a business where you don't make money ;p... Don't think for a second that they are stealing from the crowd. People who are stealing are the ones buying mass amounts of tickets and selling them for outrageous prices. I would however agree on door prices being super high when the venue is almost full. If you aren't smart enough to buy your ticket early and show up to the venue around 2am. You deserve a punch to your wallet.
Furthermore, we all should know this, most dj's avoid Vancouver for some reason, I've heard this rumor floating around, making it sound like Van is the no fun zone. I myself want to see a new epic venue, something like a The Guv in Van, but what are the chances right? Not enough investors and the Van government doesn't want to see it happen either. The club by-laws are also hideous...
Well all I can say about the MLC is that its an epic venue for a dj to get on, do his/her thing, get off and chill with the crowd. Because of MLC, I've hung out with Sean Tyas, Matt Darey, Filo and Peri, Serge Devant, B.E.N., Ronski Speed and many many others. Even though its hot:crazy:, its a good atmosphere and the people are decent and fun. Mostly cause they are all tripping on E haha. Sure there are candy kids that don't know much about the music, and can't really appreciate it, but who cares? Its our scene and we must continue it any way possible.
I am planning an amazing set for sinful.... something that Vancouver has never heard before >;D. So be there if you want to hear a set that is Trance Energy worthy. |

I fail to see how Twisted rips people off. Some of our competition price their mlc shows at $80 for pre-sales and $200 for door sales. Their concession is more expensive and in terms of production quality ours tend to be far superior. If you haven't been to one of our shows in the last 6 months then you haven't seen what we've done with the place. Now that we have staff solely dedicated to production, we can devote more time and effort into conceptualizing something cool looking and functional.
Anyone going to Twisted 2008 tomorrow should be pleasantly surprised at the extent of the decorum and production quality. Not to mention that we now also spend extra on fans to help ciculate the humid air in that place. What's more is we do listen when you guys have feedback. Why do you think I booked Menno or Cosmic Gate? We try our very best to bring a balanced lineup to every show where everyone can enjoy something at a reasonable price. If you're willing to pay upwards of $15 or $20 for a club night for a single artist, then $40 or $50 for two, three, or even FOUR of these artists isn't unreasonable at all.
Go or don't go, but take your griping and negativity somewhere else. |
