Dj's writer's block...
DjSway
Do you guys ever get into a Dj's "writer's block", like not able to find that one first song that start off a set?

Cause I'm having it right now and I can't find a good uplifting Trance song to start off my set for a friend's bday party.

Any suggestions welcomed! A song starting with a 32 beat kick would be great.

Use Tastexperience - Tantrix

and I usually never run out of ideas for an opener. My problem is I have too many that are perfect openers.

Yep, all the time.

Decent intro tunes can be hard to come by, so as soon as I find a tune which works well as an intro I keep a mental note of it and make sure I use it in the next demo I do!

If you've got any production skillz you could always make your own intro edit of a tune (to make it fit better as a first track), or even come up with your own little creation for an intro.

I find that I can find openers better than other tracks I want to play in the set.

i get it all the time

not when i have a bottle or two

what i get more though is a general apathy after i've been playing the same things for too long

i mean i have my share of personal, timeless classics, but every time i fidn a new track its like learning a bit about myself

Finding a starter, middle, and end is easy for me. finding the other tracks that tie it all together turn into the challenge.

Depends on the purpose I have for mixing. To make Demo I will usually think of something that makes a bit of a statement.

If it's just for fun I will usually stick a house track on and then progress from there. The sort of philosophy I have with that is that it's the sort of scenario I can come across when working. Gives me the chance to think how I can progress from what another DJ has done into what I want it to be. Gives you skills with regards to building energy/Tension. The point is not to leap straight into what you are dying to hear but work towards it increasing tempo and intensity as you go.

writers block was strong word for that imo lol. u just run out of good tracks thats all. ask me and i would start with a track that has a real intro, melodic something, not the usual dj crap intro.
