FOOLS GOLD

Fool's Gold is your new favorite record label.

Founded by DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, the imprint is the natural extension of many months the two have spent sharing new music and brainstorming on various creative projects.

"This DJ scene that we're a part of in North America has influenced music scenes across the world, but ironically there aren't enough labels that represent it," says A-Trak. "That's where Fool's Gold comes in. A label where we can release GLC and Kid Sister side-to-side without it being a stretch--and what's great with Fool's Gold is that it's not forced, since we're all just friends putting out each other's music."

"To me, Fool's Gold is the modern version of what labels like Sleeping Bag and Nervous were doing back in the 80s and early 90s," says Nick Catchdubs. "They would put out house records and freestyle records at the same time as Black Moon or some experimental Arthur Russell , and it all made sense. I want Fool's Gold to represent the absolute best in club music on all levels."

Helping tie everything together is Brooklyn graphic artist Dust La Rock, whose original imagery for all Fool's Gold logos and sleeve art provides a clever and constantly evolving visual aesthetic for the label.

A-TRAK

No longer is it a crime to mash a hip-hop acapella into a techno track. In this arena, A-Trak, aka Alain Macklovitch, leads the pack. The 25 year-old Montreal native rides the line between hip-hop and electronic beats in a refreshing hybrid of everything ass-shaking.” (BPM Magazine, issue 86)

Very few DJs can jump from club sets to high-profile festival performances, to Kanye West’s larger-than-life stadium shows with ease. In today’s DJ culture, A-Trak holds a truly unique place. He founded 2007’s most buzz worthy label, Fool’s Gold, with a mission to merge all aspects of club music. Such a fusion was outlined earlier in the year with a mixtape manifesto: Dirty South Dance, which set the tone for Trizzy’s very own production. In a matter of months, his signature remixes were gaining support from the likes of Busy P, DJ AM, Annie Mac, MSTRKRFT and Boys Noize.

Not bad for a kid who many viewed as a 90’s turntablism prodigy. Indeed, Alain’s career began at age 15 when he won the 1997 DMC World Championships and proceeded to take home every other DJ title known to man. He then toured the globe, first alongside Q-Bert’s Invisibl Skratch Piklz and then with Craze and the Allies. In 2004, he was hand-picked by Kanye to be his tour DJ. A near decade of youthful meanderings was captured on his acclaimed DVD Sunglasses Is A Must.

Somewhere along the line, A-Trak also became a streetwear culture icon, collaborating with New Era, Kidrobot, Zoo York and pretty much every designer worth his salt. The last couple of years have seen him headlining tours with Diplo, The Rub, DJ Mehdi and Kavinsky, and of course his older brother’s band Chromeo. Add to that production for Chicago rap sensation Kid Sister and a strong, audible influence on Kanye’s Graduation album.

After years of scratching, accumulating air miles and dressing smart, A-Trak has finally become the man to call to make the kids dance. Ask him and he’ll tell you that this is the moment he’s been waiting for his whole career.

“When I was 13 I took my bar mitzvah money and bought myself some turntables and a mixer. I practiced for about 18 hours a day. Then I came out of my basement, packed my lunch and won a bunch of world championships. Joy! I formed a DJ crew called the Allies with Craze and friends. We toured the world for a while... I guess I've been touring for the last 10 years. Time flies.

I've been Kanye's official DJ since 2004.

My brother and I ran an indie hip hop label called Audio Research from 1997 to 2007. We recently closed it down, as I founded a new label with Nick Catchdubs: Fool's Gold. Some of you now know my brother as the mustachioed half of Chromeo. They have a new album out and it's really great. But I digress. Lately I've been putting more emphasis on production, doing official remixes and producing some of Kid Sister's tracks, among others. I've also got a solo album in the works, due out next year.”

SINDEN

Sinden is a unique producer/DJ who has revitalised the club scene with his own brand of forward thinking remixes and productions, clever mash ups and genre-melting DJ sets. Since Spring 2005, Sinden has remixed artists including Lady Sovereign , Lethal Bizzle , Plan B , Basement Jaxx , Chromeo , Bugz In The Attic , Switch , Bonde Do Role , Mr Hudson & The Library & Mark Ronson and collaborated on original material with Solid Groove , Jesse Rose , Herve & Trevor Loveys .

The show runs from Wednesday night / Thursday morning from 1-2 and is the first of its kind in the UK to host an eclectic selection of music that includes Funk Carioca, Baltimore Club, Kuduru, Juke House, Southern Hip Hop, Dancehall, House/Electro and much more.

Sinden is also a resident DJ at London’s finest club, Fabric. From January 2007, Sinden alongside Switch program and DJ in the clubs main room under the banner of 'Get Familiar', on a bi-monthly basis. Sinden prides himself on being a versatile DJ capable of rocking any party, bringing his varied music tastes to the club and spinning the latest in House and Electro, Baltimore Club, Baile Funk, Hip Hop, R n B/Soul, Dancehall, House/Electro, Mash Ups, Global Rhythms, Miami Bass, Grime etc.

Fabric aside, Sinden's other DJ highlights include spinning at Basement Jaxx's club night called Inside Out in Brixton, London. Sinden was the only resident alongside Jaxx's Felix and Simon. It ran for 1 and half years. He’s also taken his sound all over the world playing to audiences in Australia, Canada, United States, Israel and all over Europe. Sinden was recruited as MIA’s tour DJ for 2007 and has been playing shows with her in support of her sophomore album Kala.

Production wise, it started when he forged a good friendship and musical understanding with Dave "Switch" Taylor and was taken under his wing to learn the production game. They created a production team called A.Brucker & Sinden and began to create progressive hip-hop, dancehall beats and other unclassifiable riddims.

Dave Taylor & Sinden's own label, Counterfeet launched in March 2006, its ethos: to have an open mind towards club music releasing records that they believed in. The debut release featured collaborations with A.Brucker & Solid Groove. The second release featured an EP by Radioclit called Mature Macho Machine.

The latest project for Sinden is the completion of the Count of Monte Cristal and Sinden album, due for release early 2008 on Domino.
