No not entirely...I'm done arguing to fellow trance addicts (you) online. I realized its a waste of time and childish. My time is much better spent DJing, promoting and bettering my set, kinda like this thead. Anyway ktracid, hard feelings aside, if...and I mean IF you were to come out and see one of my sets what would want to hear, specifically. Cause I dont just play generic house music or generic trance. I just played that one set for clients/friends that were brand new to this type of music, which is the best thing to do under those circumstances. Im pretty versitile, try me... |

scanners kinda remind me of cheap bars that try to have a dancefloor. |
I agree in theory. But at the same time I also respectfully disagree and here's why.
90% of scanners are lame and cheap. The scanners form Martin are the best in the buisness, trust me. Very high quality optics, kinda like HD, and by now we all know and are impressed by that technology. Aswell, the patterns or also known as gobos are state of the art and very cool in design and function, if you were drunk enough they would look like lasers...cause the optics combined with cutting edge gobos are that good. The scanners I had in mind would be up against a wall or stage truss so the 180 degree pan is all I would need in that situation. Just looking at prices here...the moving heads can cost up to 15grrr each, but the smartMAC about 2grrr, and the scanners 1grrr. So now you can see why I am leaning towards scanners. But in the end probably moving heads with sanners and colored strobes. Hey I'm just one guy here trying to do the best thing with the amount of money I have, clubs renos to architecture, props, and projectors (thinking of going with HIDEF projectors or even the 3D experience) are great ideas and that would have to be a future thing as money is an issue, but thanks to all for your feedback and opinions, some hilarious ones at that.
This may change your opinion on scanners...

hrmm.. not sure if this is a scanner or what then, but it was pretty cool (a bit laser-like) when I was there that night, in the front haha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpMu8ZRDILo (halfway through shows it from the booth)
if scanners are what creates that then they aren't that bad. i still prefer a bunch of the others though.. like all the moving heads at 2:45 and on of the video!
and really as previously stated by jussed you need a mix of everything.. changing ambient lighting, moving heads, strobes, screens, etc. |

Laser/Scanner?
At the beginning of the video that orange light circling around the DJ booth sure looks like a laser, I can kinda tell from the thickness (or lack their of) and sharpness to it. Now half way through when its coming straight on to the cam, it looses its laser sharpness and seems to have a thicker beam than it did before (resembling a discharge lamp-scanner/moving head) . Ill beit it, the pattern changed, but the glow of the beam fades into the surrounding darkness which is not what lasers typically do...I dunno you were there, you can usually tell if its a laser or not...but in the same breathe optics from quality moving heads/scanners look laser-like...I'll look around online and see if I find something similar, cause it looks awesome...lovin the orange.
Ya...gotta love them moving heads. I think a good mix is important too...cant just have scanners or strobes or whatever, variety is the wise chioce here. Exlusiveness too...I wanna have something that no other club around has, it helps set me apart from the other guys. |
