Anyone played this yet?
:conf:
Picked it up today but haven't had time to get into it - wondering if anyone has given Sakaguchi's shot at doing Final Fantasy that's not specifically "Final Fantasy" is ;)
Hoping to get into it tomorrow - impressions to come :) |

| I'd like to play it, but I'm not buying a Xbox 360 just to play one game. I might have a chance to borrow one this summer, though. I'd be interested in what anyone has to say about the game generally, but no spoilers please. |

Just sitting down with it for the first time right now and so far everything about this game oozes old school JRPG with pretty solid graphics. It definitely feels like a Sakaguchi game right off the bat with very clearly FF influenced themes right awway (specifically the way they include technology in a fantasy universe).
Will keep posting impressions as I play - I'm hoping that will serve better than a review at the end trying to sum everything up.
I will, however, note that the issue with the NA packaging is ing pants and really, really irritated me. |

Maybe my favorite line from an RPG ever so far:
| quote: | | That's why we had the Magic Industrial Revolution, to protect us from things like that! |
:stongue:
Edit: And some of this music is straight up ripped off from old FF games. I know that it Uematsu did the music for this one as well, so it's not surprise to hear similar sound - it's actually really, really pleasant.
Very good looking game as well - except the main character model is a pit pansy looking. :p |

It's a great game.
I'd say I'm about halfway through? Ish?
I've always been an RPG fan, and this one doesn't break down any barriers but it's good solid RPG fun! |

Yup - definitely little to know new territory here as far as gameplay goes, but the story thus far is extremely grandiose and the characters haven't proven too annoying yet (though this Jensen character is quite the twat to be sure). Voice acting is 50/50, but in general the pacing of the story so far has kept those annoyances from being to major.
Only about two hours in, but very enjoyable thus far. Hope the story remains as engrossing as it has been thus far - I find the whole "remembering a dream" aspect to be a surprisingly good way of getting background information, and the writing seems to be very, very well done thus far.
Some of the "adult themes" they tout are a bit cheesy, so I hope they don't become too prominent.
Other than that, so far, so good. |
