Seriously, in the on-going effort to find a good vinyl/CD shop in Atlanta, we should check out Earwax, off of Spring St, and Fantasy-Land/Fairy-Land Records, which is shortly off of Exit 2/Buckhead exit on GA400.
I'll be out of town this weekend, but next week sounds like a good time to do this. Who's up for it? |

Earwax is 100% hip-hop crap. Never heard of the other place. You know what they specialize in?
Anyway, I just bought about 400-ish records over the last month, so I'm set for a while. |

That's a lot, even though I've bought 50 at a go (albeit 90% from the $.10 bin)!
I got to walk into the other place for about 15 minutes. They have a lot of used vinyl and CDs. There was a good spread of genres, and their "Dance" section had a couple of pleasant surprises (Deep Dish "Junk Science" for $4?!?). I haven't really dug through the crates yet, but the store looks promising.
(Plus, I'm partial to mom-and-pop type stores, and this store looked very much like it.)
I've heard others say that Earwax was Top40 shop. Can one record store really be filled with nothing but Top40 Hip-Hop? Do those platters sell that well enough to keep a business from having to branch out? |
