I hardly ever beat RPG's, I can count the number I have on one hand, and guess what, one of them fingers represents this game. Incredibly awesome, Konami struck gold when they released this piece of platinum software back in the 90's. Tons and tons of fun.

Vandal Hearts 2 was a little different, though, as the enemies moved at the SAME time as you did, unlike this one where you took turns.

yeah, phantasy star on the megadrive was wicked. "shining in the darkness" was a "3d" dungeon scrolling RPG which was awesome as well, i loved the storyline.

A great game here as well. I didnt own it, but a friend of mine did and I can admit that this went very much under the rader. I wanna say they made a sequel, but I'm not entirely sure.

yea, still have 2 -4 for gen as well. All classics in my mind.

I hear the cartridge of the 4th can go for upwards of $200 on eBay. Honestly, though, I never really got into it, I'm not really an RPG gamer, and I got these as gifts from a friend who happened to sell his Genesis (and he didnt know the value these games had mwuhahaha). That being said, I DID get into Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast, not as much as a lot of people, but enough that I knew what I was talkin about.

Lots and lots of good games

I'm lovin the tastes you have, I forgot about nearly all of those games. Cant say I've played all of them, but Mutant Hockey League and MDK are some favs that the rest of the world seemed to forget about.

I am FORCING my roomie with his huge as all hell HDTV to buy this for his 360, I cant even fathom how good it will look. Oh, and his stereo, the one that causes noise complaints from neighbors 4 doors down...imagine the sound on that. Wow.

Ill have to check this out, never heard of it. Sounds interesting to say the least.

You might be thinking of Shining Force, for which they made a sequel. It was the same style as shining in the darkness (characters and story) but it was a more traditional 3rd person RPG rather than a 1st person. Both of the Shining Forces were also excellent.

Hmmm...I very much know of Shining Force 1 + 2, the second was one of the few games I had for the Genesis back when in the grade school days, so I'm pretty sure that's not what I'm thinking of, I always thought they made a Shining in the Darkness 2 or something of that sort, maybe it only came out in Japan or maybe I dont even know what I'm talking about.

But it IS very easy to confuse the two, how many games have Shining as a predominant word in the title...

I also want to say that Shining Force 3 for Saturn is one of the hardest games to find. And when you find it, you are likely paying very high triple-digit dollars.

One of my favorite shooters on the NES, partially because you had to work for your powerups (trying to keep bells from floating down) and had the most random enemies: Icicles, Watermelons Boss, Jukebox, Hangers

Earthbound for SNES, one of my favorite games of all time. But not sure if its one of those hidden gems, I didnt know alot of people who ever played it, but between RPG and Gaming enthusiast, alot of them played it.

Dayem... if there is a Shining in the Darkness 2, that might be reason to dig out the 'ol genesis and start hittin ebay! (or maybe check the emu sites  ) I'll have to look in to that.

(as it is, this thread is already making me want to dig out some old gems)
