MMM. what time did you get the coach???

I saw a lad on the way there on his own and on the way back. Was it you???? Did you stop at Middlesbrough STATION????

I think all the coaches going to London stop at that service station somewhere near Boro.

I headed off about 2 days before New Years Eve and came back about 3 days after. My college actually started on the 2nd the evil bastards, but noone bothered going in. My coach didn't pick anyone up in Middlesborough, but it did pick some up in Milton Keynes on the way to London. The first coach I got was about 8/9 in the morning or around about then. The one I got back was about 11pm on the 3rd or 4th I think.

Hmmmm...I'm pleased that it doesn't sound too expensive..if you're careful. I think I'll have to risk looking like a cheapskate sometimes by asking prices. I'm not a big pill popper so I won't have to worry about it. 2 pounds for a pill is ing cheap! But 8 pounds woiuld be the same as here in canada since we'd pay about 20 dollars which is about 8 pounds. I suppose cheap pints is where it's at...and I suppose all the best deals on beer will be on the domestic stuff, which is why I'm there...like, why the would I go to England to pay 3 pounds for a bottle of Budwiser!?!? I remember seeing all these people in England paying enormous prices for that ty american beer...when you have such a selection of other great beers!

Another thing I'm pleased about is the public transit in England. IN Canada and America you cannot go anywhere if you don't have a car. #1 our countries are huge and #2 our infrastructure is inferior and #3 gas and cars are so much cheaper so even the biggest welfare bum can still afford a car.

I need to make it to London Stansted airport on the 9th of May. ANybody know the cheapest route via plane, train or coach??

Thanks :D

I wouldn't get too excited about the transport. In the last 4 years we have had a train crash every year. Several hundred have died in recent years, including a relative of mine. The big topic in our news lately have been how our trains are and how our health system is. I can't compare it to what you guys have, but it certainly isn't marvellous. I certainly imagine though that less people are dependant on cars here. I read in a book by Bill Bryson, an American author, that the average American walks less than a mile a week! :eyes:

As for pubs, the prices here shouldn't be dramatically different to most places. City centre bars are where they play cheesy music (with the odd bar specialising with trance, 80s, rock, etc) as loud as nightclubs, sell ty beers (eg Budweiser, Fosters etc), and rip you off. These kind of pubs will usually charge you £3 a bottle for all their bottles, but will have at least one deal on where you get 2 for 1 of a free tequila or whatever. Some places do treble vodka + red bull for £2, which is a fantastic deal. For £10 you can have 30 shots, enough to make you collapse, in places like that, and yet they'll also charge you £3 for a bottle. Bizarre.

There are exceptions though. Newcastle has a couple of nightclubs with free beer, but the police are constantly trying to do something about it. The police recently lost a court case to stop the all-you-can-drink on the boat. Newcastle has long had a reputation as being full of pissheads though (official reports say we consume twice the national average) so these deals are a rarity.

Pills are quite a growing thing in the UK. I heard an estimate on the TV that 2 million ecstacy pills are consumed every week in the UK, other estimates suggest it's even higher, and some say it's half a million. Given we only have a population of under 60 million, that's quite a few people using them.

If you want to be a real cheapskate like I sometimes do, drink in the house before you go out. In Supermarkets if you bulk buy on beer it's sometimes a quarter of the price of stuff in bars.

Here's a quick example: In city centres everywhere, there are bars and nightclubs which are charging £3 for a bottle of Becks.

In the Victoria Wine (a national bulk-buy booze shop which are dotted all over the UK, there's one just down the road from me) I can get 15 bottles of Becks for £10. Or at least I could. A couple of weeks ago they changed their deals, so now it's 10 for £8.

That's 80p a bottle, nearly 4 times cheaper than the rip-off pubs. Sometimes me and my mates just get hammered in the house before we leave. Being poor students with unemployed parents (there aint many jobs in the North East) we are cheapskates.

I seriously think you should give cakes a try if you never have. They are so much cheaper. Then, just drink water all night. They can charge a couple of quid a bottle of water in trance clubs, but just refill the bottle in the toilet sinks. Everyone else does.

If you're that SKINT, do what ALEX said and get pissed before you go out on OFF LICENCE BOOZE DEALS.

Alex, is the boat called the PRINCESS or summin? I've been there once, i was in steaming, and i alsmost got thrown off cos i was launching bottles into the river.

Yeah it's the Tuxedo Princess. There's a smaller boat docked on Teeside I believe called the Tuxedo Royale (despite their posh names, they are very get-lashed places). That used to be docked in Newcastle, but we got rid of it a few years back in favour of the Princess.

It might have cheesy music, but it's one HELL of a laugh when you have a big group and you're all lashed, espescially on the all-you-can-drink night.

Once we got completely mashed and went into the Jazz room (they have 12 rooms). We were talking to this guy who was well into his Jazz, with a live musician playing a saxophone or something. We're pretending to be really into the jazz scene, whilst starting our 20 something bottle. We started to make up names of Jazz musicians and we're blagging the whole ing conversation.

We always give the DJ in the 80s room loads of abuse. It's a fairly small room (I think it's called the Green room or something) and basically he didn't do any mixing, just let one track finish and started the next. We give him loads of like "ing class mixing mate, I loved the transition between the tracks!" and "come on you can do better than this". He gets well pissed off and threatens to kick you out.

Hurling bottles over the side is a laugh. We have competitions to see who can throw furthest, but they kick you out if they see you.

This lass we were with, because the drinks were all free, she got sick of a drink so just poured it all over the floor, a full bottle. One night I saw this lad tip a whole bottle over his mate's head. You might as well, it's free :D

Royale has closed down for finacial reasons. The rumours were it was SINKING:p :stongue: You know what it's like.

I only used to go there before the BORO match cos there was strippers on and lesbian shows and even the beer wasn't that bad, and with it being right next to the stadium why not.

The royale is very small in comparison the the princess, it was e on a night the royale, but when i went to the princess i was steaming so i can't really remember a great deal of it.
