Rainbow Serpent 2008 - New Announcements!!!

Anomyst

Eat Static
(Solstice Music, UK)

Eat Static were formed in 1989 by Merv Pepler and Joie Hinton, then drummer and synth player respectively for UK psychedelic band Ozric Tentacles. The band made a name for themselves on the Megadog 'live' techno scene of the early '90s, playing alongside the likes of Orbital, Underworld and Aphex Twin

They were the first signings to Megadog-offshoot Planet Dog records, releasing their debut album 'Abduction' in 1993. Since then the band have played hundreds of gigs worldwide and have become one the most respected and spectacular live dance acts around.

Whilst essentially a sci-fi influenced, trance/techno outfit, they have also incorporated drum and bass, breakbeat, latin, garage and ambient styles into their sound. In the past few years the band has become more involved with the psychedelic trance scene, playing parties and festivals the world over and releasing numerous tracks on numerous compilations.

Their latest album De-Classified has just been released on Solstice Music and once again sees their sound evolving. Breaks, Dubstep, Trance and Drum n' Bass all fuse with their paranoid, futuristic and up-for-it blend of psychedelic techno.

We welcome them to the Rainbow lineup for 2008 for what won't just be the live set of the summer, but will be a truly unique experience you will never forget.

Son Kite / Minilogue
(Digital Structures / Wagon Repair, Sweden)

These guys barely need an introduction .... but just in case you've been living under a rock, let's do one anyway. Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson came from opposing backgrounds. Sebastian was trained as a classical musician playing the organ, piano and the violin among other instruments. He even became involved in teaching them until his coming of age at 18 when he formed a band and began experimenting with the sounds in a more contemporary way.

Marcus lived on a diet of Kraftwerk and the Human League until realising his true calling in the techno parties of the 90s. They got together in 1996 and after 10 years in the music business under globally successful guises such as Son Kite and Trimatic, they formed Minilogue - an animalistic music concept without the boundaries of genres.

Two of the most sort after acts around the world Son Kite and Minilogue have a reputation for consistently mind-bending live performances. They dismantled the dancefloor at Rainbow in 2006 like Tetris grandmasters and we look forward to being realigned by these guys once more.

Latest Act Announcements

OTT (Twisted — UK)

Deep within the English countryside lie a number of brilliant music producers. One such unfashionable but extremely talented artist is Ott, best friend of Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen and previous editor of the Shpongle albums. Reclusive genius Ott is no stranger to the studio. He has for the last 20 years been producing arranging and recording some of the most famous artists including Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, and Brian Eno.

Ott's inaugural artist/album 'Blumenkraft' went way over the top in quality, depth and shining brilliance. Spacey strings, chants, otherworldly noises and pertinent samples collide with his massive rub-a-dub beats and bass. Ott's music is a world to it's own, a pure undiluted atmospheric world of swirling stoned sound and colour. Indian to Arabic to African Ott's dub's are boundary-less and boundless in their scope and strength. Ott's music is a paradox of dub, not stereotypically slow heavy sounds but at once an upbeat dancey dub full of light, world chants and funky beats, while still maintaining a slow and relaxed ambient groove. His performance at Rainbow will feature new material from his follow up album due early next year.

Zen Mechanics (Neurobiotic — Netherlands)

Zen Mechanics is the project of Wouter Thomassen, undoubtedly one of the biggest new talents to come out of the Dutch scene in recent years. Coming from a very musical family, Wouter has always been curious for new sounds and started DJ'ing with various forms of electronic music in 1994.

He took up music-production in 2002, and has seen rapid success with releases on labels such as Neurobiotic, Mindfunk, Proton, Sphere/Ajuca, Sirius and Beats & Pieces. His interest in the groovier side of the spectrum has also seen his works noticed by the progressive crew at Iboga with "Ground Control" released on the "Set:4" compilation and several others since then including collaborations and remixes with the likes of Perfect Stranger, Ace Ventura and Behind Blue Eyes.

Zen Mechanics is hot property at the moment having received rave reviews from live performances at festivals including Boom and Universo Parrallelo and with his anticipated solo album on the verge of release, we are excited to add him to our lineup for Rainbow 2008.

Ripperton (Connaisseur — Germany)

Raphaël Ripperton started his DJ career in 1993. His list of collaborations is massive but includes most notably Lazy Fat People & remixes for Laurent Garnier , Oliver Lieb (aka Solieb), Radioslave, Robert Babicz and Patrick Chardronnet.
He has released his projects or remixes on an equally famous number of labels such as: Crosstown Rebel (UK), Connaisseur rec (GER), Freedom soundz (UK), Planet E (USA), Wagon Repair (CAN), Audiomatique (Ger) and featured on compilations of industry stalwarts Carl Craig (Fabric), Satoshie Tomiie (Renaissance), Loco dice (Time Warp) & James Holden (At the control).

Definitely one of the most creative Swiss DJ’s nowadays, Ripperton is the perfect chameleon in the ever evolving minimal electronic music genre.

Vishnudata (Space Boogie — Switzerland)

Valo (Vishnudata). was born 1980 and grew up in Finland and Switzerland. He started his musical adventures as a child, studying violin, drums and percussion.

In 1998 he discovered the fascination for electronic music and in 2003 started his current main project, Vishnudata. His music is a rare combination of vocals, throat singing, instruments like electric guitar and flute in the mix with the psychedelic digital electronica you’ve come to expect from Finland.
In 2007 Vishnudata released his debut album "Dreamforce" to Space Boogie Productions.

Environment / Sustainability

For several years the team behind Rainbow has been looking at ways to reduce its environmental impact. Recycling initiatives and composting toilets have already been utilised effectively at previous festivals. However, in 2008 we want to take things even further and invite you to help us in our aim to become carbon neutral. This will be achieved in part by reducing the emissions of the festival in all viable areas and offsetting any remaining surplus through tree planting and carbon credit initiatives.

Rainbow would like to encourage you to participate with us in reducing your own carbon footprint and not just over the festival period but every day. Over the coming months we will give you some useful ideas on how to measure your contribution to Co2 emissions and ways in which you can help Rainbow to achieve this important goal.
