AMAZING white label, "Kayo - Because".. any information?
nennon
Hey all.

I was record shopping yesterday and came across a really interesting white label, called Kayo - Because that features a Beatles vocal sample throughout the whole track.

I would love to hear more about this.. has anyone famous played it? Anyone know who's behind Kayo, and would this ever see proper vinyl release? I'm guessing that due to copyright issues, this song might turn out the same way as Damn Noa - Home (Marco V.ision mix) :(

Let's hear it :)

Well I believe Kayo was another name for Melanie Thornton but i could be wrong but if i remember my eurodance history. So only artist i ever heard of with the name kayo was the singer who recently passed away aka melanie thornton aka lead singer of la bouche. I remember a 1997 Le Click CD Feat Kayo who was melanie thornton. Could be her, she died in august in a swiss plane crash but she just finished an album, so it could be her on a white label. But 1997's Le Click feat Kayo is around, so i'd look into it.

It's one hell of a song. I had to listen to it twice in the record store before buying it, because it seemed almost unreal to find a GOOD white label vinyl in the US.

I had to listen to it the 2nd time to see how long the song was.. It's at least 7 minutes, meaning its proper length.

If anyone knows any more, please post. I'll try to rip a copy pretty soon.

Cheers,

have you tried asking the peeps at the record store where you bought it if they have any background info on it!?!? Where they got it from, where they heard of it from, are there any DJ's in the area that have spun it, might have info, etc??????

Wouldn't do any good. The store gets shipments from a warehouse every week.. unless I got in touch with the warehouse directly (which the store wouldn't let me do), I wouldn't find anything.

Here's what the vinyl says, though:

On the circular label itself: Kayo - Because
W# 160491 SUVSPRO2

On the back of the white sleeve, "Made in England"

On the front of the white sleeve, the warehouse's own description: "I'd love to tell you what the sample is in this deep and sexy funky house thing but I cant.. What I can say is the band used to have four members but now is down to two, with one of them having recently passed away due to cancer and apparently when their performance on the Ed Sullivan show was quite memorable. Ask your sales rep (or your mom) for further details..."
12I SOUNDS UNIQUE/HOUSE-HOUS - - - ALSO AVAILABLE AS: - 12I - (160491)

That's it.
Kayo
Hi all,

OK, OK, I'm 2 years late but I just stumbled across this site and this post and was quite choked! It brought a tear to my eye!

This was one of 2 white label promo's I did for Sounds Unique and since they were both sampling huge artists, it wasn't suppose to say "Kayo" on it! Doh! Oh well, it was a long time ago and Sounds Unique are now gone unfortunately so I don't suppose it matters too much.

The worst thing for me about "Because" was that another group also did a remix of the Beatles song around the same time and as mine was anonymous, a lot of people assumed it was by them.

Well, it was good to read that it was appreciated by some!

Kayo.
P.s. Pretty funny somebody thought I was Melanie Thornton!

she's dead btw :(

and there is another artist also called kayo, she was a swedish/african eurodance artist and i think she only did like 2 songs or whatever but i know that she might be the replacement for some singer of a eurodance act, i think it's culture beat, but i'm not sure

melanie thornton was originally of La Bouche and did Kayo as a side project till her death in a plane crash in Europe in 2001. Kayo I believe has been revived with another singer because it was run by 2 german eurodance producers.
