AME (Innervisions / Sonar Kollektiv, Germany)
Friday 28th September 2007
Miss Libertine – 34 Franklin St, Melbourne
11pm – 7am
Arguably the leader of the new-wave deep house / minimal tech-house sound out of Germany and making massive waves across Europe and the electronic music world at large, AME is responsible for the biggest techno / house anthem of recent times, “Rej”, and have cemented their reputation as a modern pioneer of soulful, emotive techno. Influenced by the likes of Moodymann, Underground Resistance, Carl Craig, Metro Area, Masters At Work, Blaze, John Tejada and Herbie Hancock, AME filters the soul of Detroit and the funk of New York and Chicago through a contemporary German mindset; and alongside Innervisions labelmates Dixon, Henrik Schwarz and Chateau Flight – have emerged as one of the hottest and most blazingly original acts on the world circuit. Presented by no less than 3 of the most highly regarded underground events crews in Melbourne – Soma Corp, Darkbeat and Stable – at the city’s premiere venue for innovative sounds, you know this s*hit is gonna be LARGE! The sun is out and Spring is steppin’ on up, time to shed a layer of clothing and feel the funk. AME… it’s French for soul.
BIOGRAPHY:
Where do connections to Detroit, Chicago, New York, Berlin and Paris all emerge? No, it is not the Frankfurt airport because this city is even another part of it. Geographically it might not make any sense but music-wise we are definitely talking about Karlsruhe here. In the little town in very western Germany all these cities influences join forces in the studio of Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer, together forming the duo Âme (speak: Ahm, = French for soul). Their soulful mission to explore far beyond the borders of house music has already captured the attention of all major peeps involved in present club music, not only with hit tracks such as Rej (selling over 20000 copies on vinyl and licensed to Defected) and Where You At? (with Henrik Schwarz and Derrick Carter), but also their numerous remixes (for Truby Trio, Jazzanova, Nigel Hayes, Random Factor), deft DJ sets and mix CDs and an excellent album on Sonar Kollektiv. Together with Berlin’s ‘darling of house’ DJ Dixon they run the highly influential Innervisions label, delivering constant quality with 12"s that are rocking house, techno and broken beat floors alike.
Âme's sound is easily accessible without ever losing deepness, complexity and a distinct twist. Their inspirations, how diverse they might be, are cleverly quoted but never copied with the music of Stevie Wonder, WestEnd Rec, Transmat, Underground Resistance, Weather Report and Herbie Hanplaying as much a role as their colleagues such as Moodyman, Carl Craig, Metro Area, Blaze, John Tejada, Jazzanova and IG Culture. Dubbed the founders of the ‘new house renaissance’ by Germany’s dance press this is Âme’s first tour to Australia, represented by Frank Wiedemann. As we speak the story of Âme continues with pushing the boundaries of new sounds, patterns and arrangements.
